algrove Posted September 28, 2013 Share #122 Posted September 28, 2013 That is why when they have go so much right, the very weird situation of the missing M240 accessories makes no sense at all Wilson Trouble is that many new things are not functioning well on the M. Look at the EVF over heating issue that locks up M's all over the world. I have never even hit my M button, but many are now complaining about strange sounds while recoding. Perhaps the answer is a stripped down M like the ME is a stripped down M9. I am not suggesting getting rid of the EVF, but there is definitely something amiss here. barjohn Posted September 28, 2013 Share #123 Posted September 28, 2013 It is evident that Leica's software team is struggling and dare I say, not the most competent group of programmers. Every single camera has firmware issues that could and should have been addressed but they are glacially slow at fixes and often the fixes either don't solve the problem or introduce new ones. Where is Leica management? Good programmers are out there, you just have to find and hire them.

Lou, Maybe I have been lucky with my replacement M. I use the EVF all the time with no problems. The internal microphone is not very good and picks up sounds of your hands moving on the camera. A partial solution is to turn wind suppression up to medium. Whoever thought it was a good idea to use the EVF socket for an external microphone, should be fired. They compounded the error by failing to put a microphone socket on the MF grip, so I agree there are "howlers" on this camera. On the other hand I did not buy the M to use it as a movie camera. My EP-5 with its lighter weight and 5 axis stabilisation does a far better job, particularly with the Summicron 28mm on it and the M does make a very good and flexible still camera. It would be even better if the FW update ever comes out, hopefully before I am pushing up the daisies. FW update estimated for mid-September - haa haa! wlaidlaw Posted September 29, 2013 Share #126 Posted September 29, 2013 Wilson Did not realize you had gotten a replacement camera. What was so wrong that this idea was agreed to? When my M came back from the lug repair at the beginning of June, every time you started up the camera, if you had a heavyish lens on (any of my SLR lenses) and were holding the camera by the right hand side, it started to take a movie all by itself. I spoke to Andrea at service in Solms and said I had bought a new camera and not one that would have had two serious repairs/rebuilds in the first three months, which would have inevitable consequences long term (water proofing etc). She agreed right away, with no argument at all and arranged for the faulty one to be picked up and replaced with a new one. The new one does not have the odd little faults and problems that the first one did, so a good move from my POV. Wilson
algrove Posted September 29, 2013 Share #127 Posted September 29, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I guess sending a camera in for "calibration" is the only way to get new internal upgrades. Then again if you do not have specific complaints, they will not "improve" an early M.
Meadowspos Posted October 4, 2013 Share #128 Posted October 4, 2013 Some newish information. For what it is worth, I have just spoken with Leica Mayfair in London re the availability of this adapter. They said that they had just received a demonstration adapter and that they were expecting numbers of this item soon. I pressed on what soon meant and they said maybe by the middle of the month - but they are limited by what the factory tells them. Speaking about previous delivery dates that were not achieved, they said that there had been a problem with previous production. Let us hope that this time the delivery happens. Rick Posted October 6, 2013 Share #135 Posted October 6, 2013 Received my Leica R to M adapter from Ffordes this morning by Royal Mail recorded delivery. It's official. October, 05, 2013. Whew! Just under the 13-month mark. Congratulations are in order for Leica AG. I'm sure everyone would agree that anything under 13 months from the date of announcement is vert respectable. Not so quickly as to say we are desperate, and well before the announcement of the new M, so as to see we generally have our shit together. Bravo and well played Leica! algrove Posted October 6, 2013 Share #136 Posted October 6, 2013 Our problem in the US is we do not have Royal Mail, but do have a royal PITA mail service who successfully lost over $1 billion dollars per month for a 16 billion dollars tax payer funded mess last year. Plus in Europe there are no importation delays and customs duties like here.
jlehrer Posted October 10, 2013 Share #137 Posted October 10, 2013 An update. Now that I have the Leica R Adapter M here to test against the Novoflex LEM/LER I can confirm that both adapters bring up the 28/90mm frame lines when mounted on an M. Neither adapter automatically pops up the R lens profile menu on our M with the new firmware installed, I still need to go into the Lens Detection menu, select Manual, and then the list of R lenses is brought up for me to choose from. We just received more adapters from Novoflex, and I noticed that they updated their 6-bit coding to be higher quality and more closely match the Leica coding. In the image below the Leica adapter is on the left and the Novoflex on the right. The differences are apparent, and I'll be posting on Red Dot Forum with my full assessment this week! Josh, That is odd. If I leave my M240 at automatic and mount my Novoflex LEM/CONT adapter coded as 110111 and look at lens coding, I find it has changed to Manual all by itself and remembers the last R lens I had selected. If I subsequently mount a coded M lens, I find it has moved itself back to automatic detection, without any action on my behalf. As far as I am concerned this is perfect behaviour. Does yours not act like this? Wilson
jlehrer Posted October 10, 2013 Share #139 Posted October 10, 2013 Wilson: That is how our R adapter behaves (both Leica and Novoflex) but the behavior that I was expecting was that the M would automatically bring up the R lens selection menu as soon as I mount the adapter. Yes it remembers the last lens, but if I am changing R lenses I would not want to have to dive into the menu each time to select the proper lens.
