Advertisement Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Hi mirekti, Take a look here Small piece of suede and Thumbs up, how useful !. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
IWC Doppel Posted November 26, 2013 Author Share #22 Posted November 26, 2013 I use Thumbs up on the M240, and I might DIY this sling, it looks really useful. The only thing I dislike about the thumbs up is the fact I cannot put an external viewfinder while it is on Other that a perfect accessory. I always carry my Leica 18mm and Voigtlander 21/25 viewfinders in my camera bag (I often used to forget to pack with the lens, so although my 18,21,24 lenses often stay at home the viewfinders dont' !) I prefer the viewfinder without thumbs up to be honest as your eye is in a different place. So for me the combination of viewfinder (for 18,21,24) and basic thumbs up for the rest is perfect

pieterpronk Posted November 26, 2013 Share #24 Posted November 26, 2013 I've used this on my M8 while on vacation in Rome. An added Bonus is that it would be even harder to steal, as it is stuck to your hand. And I like just having my camera dangle at the of my arm so to speak. But I'm just too scared to use it on my M240. The strap lug issues should be solved, but combined with the added weight of the camera I just don't trust the one strap lug to be enough. farnz Posted November 26, 2013 Share #26 Posted November 26, 2013 Try the Thumbie - leaves hot shoe free and doesn't get caught on a jacket like the T.U. Have had one now years - love it. Nice design & price, good guy in the UK makes them. Yes they're made by 250swb (Steve from post number 9 in this thread). Wonderful design and beautifully made; I've used them on my M8 and M9-P for 5 or 6 years. I don't use one with my M240 because the thumbwheel's in the way so I've just put a thin strip of self-adhesive, non-slip skateboard tape on the back of the thumbwheel's housing and it provides a good, reliable grip for my thumb and the tape is removable or replaceable when the grit disappears. mirekti Posted November 27, 2013 Share #28 Posted November 27, 2013 This thumbie looks good, but I don't think it would fit the M240 due to the wheel bump. Once you put it you cannot remove it, right? I went to Michael's today, bought some leather and made a sling. I had to shave the leather as it was too thick, but it eventually worked out. Thanks for the idea. The sling fits perfeclty the body, but once I put the half case on it, it produces some sonud as the leather and the halfcase make it a bit too tight. pfhrased Posted November 27, 2013 Share #29 Posted November 27, 2013 Perhaps you should contact Tim or Lily from match Technical and ask if they have a cold shoe version of the Thumbs Up planned for the M. Contact us

Once you put it you cannot remove it, right? You can, actually. Each Thumbie comes with two 3M adhesive strips. They're easy to remove.
mirekti Posted November 27, 2013 Share #31 Posted November 27, 2013 You can, actually. Each Thumbie comes with two 3M adhesive strips. They're easy to remove. Adhesive thumbie sounds like the best solution. I guess I'll have to ask Tim whether they'll make some for M240.

Tim Isaacs makes the Thumbs Up, not the Thumbie, which is made by Steve Barnett so you'd need to approach Steve. Pete.
rafael_macia Posted December 3, 2013 Share #33 Posted December 3, 2013 I contacted Steve about a Thumbie for the 240 and he told me he is working on the design for one right now. I put myself on his list of 240 people who are interested in one once the design is completed.
Guest Posted December 11, 2013 Share #34 Posted December 11, 2013 Adhesive thumbie sounds like the best solution. I guess I'll have to ask Tim whether they'll make some for M240. Have a look at Thumbs Up CSEP-4S, which I think is very useful. Thumbs Up CSEP-4S It's not glued but fits safely with a screw that can be removed easily without leaving a trace. In addition, this special Thumbs Up has a double cold shoe. Although it has been recommended for digital Leica Ms, the M-240 is missing. May be because of the early publication date of the web page or because of other reasons, which would have to be requested from the manufacturer. Ecar Posted December 11, 2013 Share #35 Posted December 11, 2013 But then, on the M240, it's either T-u or EVF, right?

andym911 Posted December 11, 2013 Share #37 Posted December 11, 2013 a leica digital M without a Thumbs Up is tough to hold (shame on Leica)… but I don't want cloth or suede or any other foreign 'blanket' between me and the camera..works just fine as it is I feel. however each to their own best andy
tredlie Posted December 20, 2013 Share #38 Posted December 20, 2013 indeed Thumbie is great. I sometimes what myself, and then I always see my thumb where it should be: on the Thumbie just give it a try
wattsy Posted December 20, 2013 Share #39 Posted December 20, 2013 How practical are these additional parts, if you shoot in portrait mode? Very. The thumbs-up allows you to angle the camera more easily, and something like the suede loop (i.e. the leicagoodies sling) mean you can dangle it rather than be forced to rest the weight entirely on the supporting left hand, which you're also using to focus. I guess that depends upon how you hold the camera. I always shoot portrait with the shutter release "down" (viewfinder at the "top", right hand taking the weight of the camera). The other way seems very uncomfortable and counterintuitive to me.
