Advertisement Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Hi jankap, Take a look here in praise of the 50/2.8 Elmar-M (1994 - 2007). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cpclee Posted September 19, 2013 Author Share #42 Posted September 19, 2013 Dennis Laney says that the black Elmar-M 50mm, f2.8 has a '...light weight black plastic mount' pg. 229 of Leica Collectors Guide 2nd Edition. Is this the reason it is so light? I guess we can't find out where he acquired that information from but it would not be the first time that a plastic mount was used. I had a Summicron 35mm v4 from 1980 Serial number 3,062,xxx with tiger claw that the repair person said had a polycarbonate plastic mount which tended to jam and strip. She told me that was the reason that it losened up on me. Can anyone clarify on this? I don't see any plastic except the tiny red dot

Concerning the 35cron IV, however,, do believe that your repair person might mix this up with the info I have heard about one internal part in this lens being made of polyc... and this part seems to have caused some problems... Me myself having no problems... and there seems to be thousands of fans of this lens still out there... If I only could find the article I read once, I would have been more specific... TomB_tx Posted October 1, 2013 Share #44 Posted October 1, 2013 Some (35 IV) were made with a plastic inner body, and I've seen pictures of them splitting so the front lens group falls off. However, not all were made this way, and Leica still repaired them last I knew.
tobey bilek Posted October 15, 2013 Share #45 Posted October 15, 2013 They break when people us the front of the lens to hold when mounting. Use the knurled portion near the mount flange.
