jaapv Posted August 15, 2013 Author Share #41 Posted August 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Maybe a silly question, but how is the insurance company going to check on the amount of time you spend outside the UK?
Advertisement Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Bit depressed.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tobey bilek Posted August 15, 2013 Share #42 Posted August 15, 2013 Passport stamps ? Although I don`t know if travel inside Eurozone needs a passport. I have fallen a number of times mostly with snow on top of ice or leaves covering exposed tree roots. My equipment is inside a bag, however that does not suit everyone. pgk Posted August 15, 2013 Share #43 Posted August 15, 2013 My equipment is inside a bag, however that does not suit everyone. The unexpected usually happens at times when stuff is not where it is as safe as possible or if it is, when it fails to operate properly. The other day my wife parked up and I opened the passenger door to get out. My spare M9 battery was in a velcroed pocket and as I got out of the car, the velcro parted and the battery shot out of it. I've never had this happen before and normally it would simply mean picking up the battery. But no. The car had come to a stop with a road drain just behind the door and of course the battery shot straight down it:D. I can see the funny side now but it wasn't quite as amusing when it happened - and I've gone off velcro;).
wlaidlaw Posted August 15, 2013 Share #44 Posted August 15, 2013 Maybe a silly question, but how is the insurance company going to check on the amount of time you spend outside the UK? Jaap, Insurance companies have all sorts of tools now from lie detection algorithms on their phone lines to looking at things like Facebook, Flikr and mobile phone bills, in the event of a large claim. Although they will not admit it, UK insurers (and French also for all I know) also have a secret black list on their centralised/shared claim database and if they suspect you of being less than 100% straight with them, you can find all your insurance premiums will rise considerably. I had a policy which covered me up to 60 days any one trip, which was fine but they changed that to an aggregate of 90 days outside the UK in any one year, which wasn't. Insurers are much smarter than they used to be. One of my former clients who owned one of the major UK travel insurance companies, reckoned he had paid out for more lost/stolen Rolex watches than Rolex had ever made Wilson
andybarton Posted August 15, 2013 Share #45 Posted August 15, 2013 My cameras are insured through my household insurance policy which covers me for loss outside the estate as well as inside the homestead. AFAIK, there is no restriction on the number of days I can take them outside nor any restriction on travel. While I don't walk around with the price of a new VW Golf on my shoulder, it's surprising how much a bag of one body and a couple of lenses adds up to. andybarton Posted August 15, 2013 Share #46 Posted August 15, 2013 Passport stamps ? Although I don`t know if travel inside Eurozone needs a passport. It doesn't. Even those of us from the UK don't have Passport stamps while travelling in Europe. Once you are in the EU, you can travel pretty much anywhere without hindrance. unless you want to go to Gibraltar from Spain, in which case your life becomes very difficult at the moment. pedaes Posted August 15, 2013 Share #49 Posted August 15, 2013 So sorry to hear Jaap, these things only take an instant to happen. The M will soon be good as new and is a certainty - hope you have no lasting issues from tumble. Speedy recovery to both!

jaapv Posted August 15, 2013 Author Share #51 Posted August 15, 2013 The camera will be fine and my knee... well.. Ein Knie geht einsam durch die Welt. Es ist ein Knie, sonst nichts! gjames9142 Posted August 15, 2013 Share #52 Posted August 15, 2013 Jaap, I feel for you. Last year, with an M9 around my neck, I stepped into a hole in a sidewalk in Montreal. My reflex was to save the camera. The camera was fine. My back, not so much.
pieterpronk Posted August 15, 2013 Share #53 Posted August 15, 2013 Sorry to hear about your injuries and the damage to your camera, Jaap. Hopefully your knee will get better and the camera fixed.
Jeff S Posted August 15, 2013 Share #54 Posted August 15, 2013 Sorry to hear. You do have bad luck with accidents. In the US, lawyers would be knocking on your door. Body parts are the bigger concern, but I suppose the gear part could have been worse had the Monochrom also been in tow. Jeff
Chris101-MM Posted August 15, 2013 Share #55 Posted August 15, 2013 I feel for you Jappv, sorry to hear about this tragedy! Now get back on you Monochrom horse and produce some splendid shots!

satijntje Posted August 15, 2013 Share #58 Posted August 15, 2013 Dear Jaap, very sorry to read this. I hope that you will recover 100%, Solms will take care of the rest. As I'm still suffering from a serious stroke in 2009, I let things often fall out of my hand because of limited control of my hands. So I have a insurance that will cover my Leica stuff for this kind of drops. Hope that your insurance will cover your losses 100%, just forget to make the city responsible for not cleaning up things after work, that will be an endless court-case with many sleepless nights for you...... RoySmith Posted August 15, 2013 Share #59 Posted August 15, 2013 My thoughts are with you. I know how easily these things happen. I hope you and the M are back to normal very soon.
earleygallery Posted August 15, 2013 Share #60 Posted August 15, 2013 Hi Jaap, hope your knee and camera are both fine again soon. It's easy to seriously hurt yourself in what might seem like a minor trip, so you may have been a bit lucky. The M is an easy repair.
