The Pana LF1 is an amazing little camera - so small you can place it into a zippered leather pouch and that still slips easily into a shirt pocket. But the 200 mm (effective) zoom and a sensor as big as the D-Lux6 is great news. The VF is probably the worst I've ever seen, but in an absolute emergency, there you go. The VF and LCD do not switch automatically. Images with a lot of detail are much worse at the edges than the D-Lux6, in fact with some foliage, the LF1 can look like it's on LSD around the edges. The center has good detail. The lens return and manual focus return at power on are handy. The stabilizer works well. I tried HDR in the Scenes mode, but the camera really needs to be supported since it will shift slightly between the HDR first to last image when taken handheld.

this is a camera geared SPECIFICALLY towards women, it seems. my wife is going to go ga ga over this! I'm sure she'll want to replace her D-Lux 3 when she sees it! ha. i predict this to be a HUGE success for Leica.....especially if the pricing is under $750.

Right on - just hold the Pana LF1 in your hand sometime - the perfect camera for the lady who keeps the little bugger in her handbag. A Leica version will be too sexy to resist.

I have to say that I kind of like it. In the last few years I've paired my kit down a whole lot and now I travel with my M9 (and a couple of lenses) and my iPhone 5. But recently I've been missing having a nice tiny compact camera, like my old D-Lux 4, something sort of pocketable. Maybe this might be good. And I like the Dark Red color scheme.

truth be told....it is a pretty slick looking camera....i predict this to be a HUGE success for Leica.....especially if the pricing is under $750.

The USA price is supposedly $699; if true that is a surprisingly affordable $200 markup over the Panasonic LF1 (and with Lightroom 5, and Passport Warranty).

In my mind this is hardly limited to female customers; many of us men have a hard time with LCD-only viewing at any time, not to mention bright sun conditions. I have been seriously considering the LF1 as an upgraded small travel / take-along camera; this is the first time I think I'd seriously consider a Leica-badged version.

I just pre-ordered the C Typ 112 (light gold) from Dale photo. I was not able to compare my LX7 and D-Lux6 directly since the LX7 went elsewhere, but I've had the LF1 since it came out, so shortly I should be able to directly compare the LF1 to the C. This should be an interesting test, since the LF1 lens has much less integrity than the D-Lux6 (LX7) around the edges. It will be most interesting to see if Leica improves on the LF1 in that respect.

Interesting marketing spiel...

"With its unique design, the Leica C is the perfect fashion accessory for any outfit, and discreet size makes the camera fit in a small purse.

Honestly this is absolutely terrible and borderline sexist. I'm really surprised to read this marketing language.

What the h*ll has happened to the company?

This might be a nice camera for my wife, to replace her ageing V-Lux 20. The feature she would particularly like, is to have a viewfinder, albeit electronic, as she like me, does not like holding the camera at arms length, squinting in bright sunlight to see what on earth you are taking. I hope the EVF has auto eye detection, as that improves the ergonomics a lot.

However a slight downside is the shorter 8X zoom lens. She has used the 12X zoom feature quite a lot on her V-Lux20 and the alternative to the C, the V-Lux40, now has a 20X zoom. I am pleased to see that Leica has resisted the temptation to squeeze zillions of pixels into quite a small sensor.

I'll be very interested to read more about this camera and see if it's the "rebadge" or not... I'm not at all interested in a camera as a fashion statement, though I am a woman. However I am interested in a small, slim, very good camera with sensible, good controls and very good image quality. I used to have the X1 and it was very nice. I look forward to more info on this camera.

In the meantime, it's interesting to see that they have a number of Leica cases for this and, alas?, all but one is rather "fashionable". Here's a link to Leica Store Washington DC's site: Compact Cameras : Leica Store Washington DC which you can scroll through if you're interested...but the only Leica made pouch that looks good to me is: C-Pouch Black : Leica Store Washington DC - just in case anyone has any interest.:)
