On the contrary, Micro FourThirds does need fast lenses since DoF-wise they are at a disadvantage compared to both 35 mm (2 f-stops) and APS-C (1 f-stop). From a DoF perspective the Nocticron is more like a Summarit.

It was a rhetorical remark . Did you read the sentence that followed, it isn't very long?

Interesting that you cut off the second half of 250swb's post in your quote in order to make, essentially, the same point.

A common internet tactic when there is nothing else worth saying.:)

If you really want fast for M43 format, you can always look to the VC 42.5mm f0.95 lens.

They have 3 of these f0.95 lenses now, 35mm equiv of 35mm, 50mm, and now 85mm. MF only which is the big drawback.

DOF is about equal to the f1.4 lenses but with better than 1 stop of light gathering capability.

The Voigtlander 42.5mm has been released?

Interesting, but I really have no idea why they picked that name lol.

Given some of the niche lenses they make it would be hard to accuse CV of being po-faced and unimaginative. In all their offerings they seem to be a company that have a go and make things that people want where it doesn't already exist, and therefore making people happy (especially with their prices). So I'd think the name is purely for fun, yes, a hard concept to accept on a Leica forum.

Except that what Michael said was correct and what 250swb said was not (two stops from FF to 4/3, not one).

Interesting? Where did I say anything about one stop? You should get more sleep.

Oh, okay - we could now argue for seven pages about this or we leave it how Michael said it in a way there is no misunderstanding.

Except, with m4/3 the DOF is double that of a FF sensor

PS: In Germany it's 9 AM and I had plenty of sleep :)

You may be confusing the light transmission with the DOF. One stop doubles or halves the amount of light going through the aperture, but it doesn't double (or halve) the DOF. Hence I made the point of saying that DOF was double (at like for like apertures). So the DOF spread of a 25mm lens on m43 at 10 feet is about 9.91 inches at f/5.6, and a 50mm at the same f/5.6 on FF it is about 4.29 inches, so we generally say DOF is double/twice the amount at the same aperture, equivalent to two stops of DOF. But it has nothing to do with the light, to double light it is only one stop wider, two stops wider quadruples it etc.
