lct Posted September 9, 2013 Share #124 Â Posted September 9, 2013 You're not alone if it's any consolation. I don't yet rattle though...
rramesh Posted September 10, 2013 Share #125 Â Posted September 10, 2013 I spent the better part of the afternoon in the Leica store trying out my new hood on different 28 Summicron lenses. And guess what, the fit is not always the same. Â Seems that the hood needs to be matched to the lens and I need to send both my hood and the lens to Solms. menos I M6 Posted September 10, 2013 Share #126  Posted September 10, 2013 I spent the better part of the afternoon in the Leica store trying out my new hood on different 28 Summicron lenses. And guess what, the fit is not always the same. Seems that the hood needs to be matched to the lens and I need to send both my hood and the lens to Solms.  It's just a hood.  Both of my 12466 hoods "rattle" (not sure if I would call it that way) on both of the lenses, I use them on (28/2 + 35/1.4 ASPH).  They are meant to be stuck on the lens, where they should securely remain until intentionally removed and protect the lens' front element from stray light and poky fingers.  I never have any rattle issues during actual use ;-)  I use filters a lot on the 35mm - attach and remove them often, as the light changes during use - the 12466 is fantastic for this - much nicer than the original plastic hood, as it is faster and easier to remove and attach. Also after getting it back, it could still rattle or develop a rattle after using it a few times. Then what are you going to do, send it all the way to Germany a second time? sisoje Posted January 9, 2014 Share #129 Â Posted January 9, 2014 Here is my version of Leica 12466... Â Â Â The original hood "donated" mounting ring, and the hood part is modified $7 eBay "vented hood" (55mm size). Some creative customization involving Dremel, constriction adhesive and black vinyl wrap...
UliWer Posted January 9, 2014 Share #130 Â Posted January 9, 2014 Well, it looks nice - for a try. Â Whether it entitles you to become a member of the "12466 Society" (aka: "the hooded 500") remains to be considered.

There are other "things" as beautiful as that piece of gear that I rather spend my money. Not being a Leica "collector" with "dry closets" and all that comes with it, but just a working photographer I can not afford a shade worth as much as a Voightlander lens, for example...  I will always tear up my eyes on a pure sight of 12466 mounted on the lens, but my hand will stay away from my wallet:D
