Advertisement Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Hi algrove, Take a look here 12466 hood. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Peter H Posted August 8, 2013 Share #42 Â Posted August 8, 2013 Other than the fact that this is rather expensive, could someone explain if the 12466 is superior to other hoods in blocking out glare and lens flare? Â After all there are many options out there (Leica original hood that ships with the 28/2, Contax GG1, Heavystar etc.) Â I have the 12466 and the original plastic hood. I prefer the 12466 for its lightness, small size and unobtrusiveness, (or the feeling of such: whether it really is less obtrusive is open to speculation!) but no, I don't think it provides any better protection against flare and glare. The original hood does a very good job.

The original hood does a very good job. Â The real reason for the new hood, other than aesthetics, is to prevent loosening of the front lens group: The square hood can apply quite a bit of rotational torque e.g. when pushing the lens plus camera into a bag; this eventually loosens the front group allowing it to turn. Â My 28mm Summicron suffered from this; so the 12466 hood is an investment against repairs. My 35mm Summilux ASPH has a bit of a wobble, but no rotation, so don't know if it's the same cause;I still us this lens with it's square hood. 349A Posted August 8, 2013 Share #46 Â Posted August 8, 2013 200! Wow, I finally own a rare Leica piece. Actually, it's a bit of a pita in my opinion, getting the lens cap on and off is a chore. The square hood and its clip on hood is much easier IMHO. Â Jonathan

They are a pain on standard lenses & hoods but perfect on the 12466.
IWC Doppel Posted August 9, 2013 Author Share #48 Â Posted August 9, 2013 Leica Munich store today confirmed that the #12466 was a special production run of just 200 hoods. Â Wow, I better look after it then. Assuming it still fits the next gen 28 it might hold its value I guess. Shame it doesn't fit more e46 lenses
wattsy Posted August 9, 2013 Share #49 Â Posted August 9, 2013 A future 28 will almost certainly have one of the newer generation of screw-on hoods.

MarkP Posted August 11, 2013 Share #58 Â Posted August 11, 2013 OK, so at 500 hoods that is 1 hood per 14,700,000 instead of 35,500,000 people on planet earth . Â I still don't know why my hood isn't worth millions .

MarkP Posted August 11, 2013 Share #60 Â Posted August 11, 2013 Keep going and corner the marked on 12466's. You can sell them for a hefty profit and retire.
