Nordvik Posted July 20, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 20, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought a used M9 a week ago. Last night it suddenly stopped writing pictures to the SD card. I can not view any pictures on the camera screen or on my computer, they are all black. The red light is blinking as it should be when writing to the card. Could this be a SC card problem? I used a 4 GB card from my M8. I have formated it in camera (as usual) and even tried overwriting, still no pictures. Also tried a 2 GB card and I recharged my M8 battery and tried that one in the M9. Took it out with power on. Still only black pictures. What else could I try? Advertisement Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Hi Nordvik, Take a look here M9 takes only black pictures. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
enrico.pocopagni Posted July 20, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 20, 2013 Hello, sorry to ear this. Sounds like the shutter doesn't open. Did you try to fire the shutter watchin' it? Best luck enrico
Nordvik Posted July 20, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted July 20, 2013 It seems and hears like the shutter is working. When I use the "sensor cleaning" option in the menu the shutter opens like it should do. I tried it without a lens and the shutter is working. brill64 Posted July 20, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 20, 2013 Did you remove the lens cap.? Is the shutter speed set to 1/4000s.? Is the aperture set at f22.? Have you tried taking a picture without a lens attached to see if the shutter opens or not.? If not the shutter mechanism may need to be replaced. Nordvik Posted July 20, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted July 20, 2013 I have been using a M8 for two years without a problem and a M3 for 20 years. So I am not unfamiliar with the M concept. I did remove the lens cap and the aperture is not set to 22 (16).
geotrupede Posted July 20, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 20, 2013 can you see the exposure indicators? perhaps they are faulty? try to set manually aperture and shutter to something open (4s f2.8 iso 2500, daytime) is the image white? what about the lens, do you have any filter on it? try to tether from a computer and see if that makes any difference... in any case good luck! Nordvik Posted July 20, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted July 20, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I took a picture of the info screen:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/treball/IMG_0266_zpsc83c88b9.jpg I notice there are something recorded to the far left of the histogram. And then I remember that I changed the WB to manual (3200) last night when the problem started. Set the WB to AWB and it takes pictures again. Very strange. Never had this problem with my M8. Thank you all for your suggestions. Not very sad now.

Nordvik Posted July 20, 2013 Author Share #9 Posted July 20, 2013 If anyone is having the same problem: It was only the previews and the camera screen that was showing black pictures. When I imported these black pictures to the computer they where fine (with kelvin 3200). I can not replicate it. When I set WB to manual now it all works fine. Many have said M8 was a beta version, but I have not had a single problem in two years. I am not too sure about this M9 for three time the price of a M8. enrico.pocopagni Posted July 20, 2013 Share #10 Posted July 20, 2013 Well, shutter, sensor and camera are working, that's good. Can you see any picture after shooting? (review mode: off?); and in play mode?
Guest WPalank Posted July 20, 2013 Share #11 Posted July 20, 2013 If you are used to shooting Aperture Priority, is there the chance that the dial has changed to Manual Mode and maybe 2000 of a second instead of "A"? I know it freaks me out when this happens to me.
lucerne Posted July 20, 2013 Share #12 Posted July 20, 2013 I took a picture of the info screen:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/treball/IMG_0266_zpsc83c88b9.jpg I notice there are something recorded to the far left of the histogram. Thank you all for your suggestions. Not very sad now. I've conducted a test on my m9 tonight. I notice that when I set my WB to manual Kelvin 3200, take the shot , press play, and Info, the screen reports WB manual plus the temperature I selected. Yours didn't provide that information, suggesting that it hadn't set itself. Try setting it again to any temperature and look at the info box. Good luck.
