digitalfx Posted July 17, 2013 Share #41 Posted July 17, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M just returned from Solms and I tested my new 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro (per post from Thorsten). Straight out of the box with only in camera formatting, the start up is roughly 1 second (or less, but not sure how you can accurately time this under 1 second.)....which is twice as fast as the same card in 16GB size. Tomorrow I will have the Lexar cards Jaap recommended and can compare...but this 64GB card is pretty amazing.

lct Posted July 17, 2013 Share #42 Posted July 17, 2013 ... I tested my new 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro... the start up is roughly 1 second ... which is twice as fast as the same card in 16GB size... Yes Lindolfi got the same result if memory serves. Thanks for sharing.
digitalfx Posted July 17, 2013 Share #43 Posted July 17, 2013 Ok, just timed it with an actual stop watch 2.2 seconds honestly 1 or 2 seconds is pretty fast. Im formatting in SD Formatter and trying again.
Knorp Posted July 17, 2013 Share #44 Posted July 17, 2013 My M just returned from Solms and I tested my new 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro (per post from Thorsten).Straight out of the box with only in camera formatting, the start up is roughly 1 second (or less, but not sure how you can accurately time this under 1 second.)....which is twice as fast as the same card in 16GB size. Tomorrow I will have the Lexar cards Jaap recommended and can compare...but this 64GB card is pretty amazing. It begs the question: does size matter ... Rarely need more than 16Gb, but I wonder if the more expensive 64Gb is really faster than it's smaller sibling. Can some else confirm this, too ? Thanks. Kind regards. digitalfx Posted July 17, 2013 Share #45 Posted July 17, 2013 64GB after SD formatting is exactly the same 2 seconds. 16GB version of same card is same times. Not sure what Thorsten was seeing. Anxious to see how the Lexar compares.
esy0345 Posted July 18, 2013 Share #46 Posted July 18, 2013 SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC) Flash Card Model Start up with SDFormatter and Leica format to screen on is 1.6 seconds for my M240. Both are equal. Significant improvement from old sd card.
digitalfx Posted July 18, 2013 Share #47 Posted July 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) My times are: camera off hold shutter down and turn on simultaneously time from turn on to first exposure 2.2 seconds. This is fairly consistent with either 16gb or 64 gb
digitalfx Posted July 18, 2013 Share #48 Posted July 18, 2013 Far from one second anyway. Hope i'm wrong but it seems like the mean culprit is the camera. or the method of timing...its not easy to get an accurate time, because it relays on your reactions. 1 sec or 2 sec...does it really matter? I can't raise the camera and focus in less than 2 seconds...can you?
lct Posted July 18, 2013 Share #49 Posted July 18, 2013 Sure i can. Half pressing the shutter button when holding the cam solves mostly the problem for me but more than one second is not acceptable IMHO.
lct Posted July 18, 2013 Share #50 Posted July 18, 2013 My old 5D1 is blazingly fast by comparison. HCB... The decisive moment... Shame on Leica if the forthcoming FU doesn't fix this for good.
ronaldh Posted July 18, 2013 Share #51 Posted July 18, 2013 Some weeks ago I bought from Amazon UK two cards described as "SanDisk Extreme Pro SDHC Memory Card 95 Mbps 16 GB". I have used only one of them so far. It seems pretty fast and I have had no problems with it. However, on the Amazon page for this item there is now a notice that they have withdrawn it from sale at present as a buyer complained that it was not as described. No further details were given. Here is a link: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDHC Memory Card 95 Mbps 16 GB Can anyone cast light on this?
matlep Posted July 18, 2013 Share #52 Posted July 18, 2013 Bought two 16 gigs Lexar x600. Still about two seconds on both cards.
digitalfx Posted July 18, 2013 Share #53 Posted July 18, 2013 Bought two 16 gigs Lexar x600. Still about two seconds on both cards. I think the differences are in the way people are timing. For me all the fast cards have equal times.
lct Posted July 18, 2013 Share #54 Posted July 18, 2013 Bought two 16 gigs Lexar x600. Still about two seconds on both cards. That's what i feared. I've ordered one but i don't hold my breath.
matlep Posted July 18, 2013 Share #55 Posted July 18, 2013 I think the differences are in the way people are timing. For me all the fast cards have equal times. Maybe, but I still think 2 seconds is to long. I was hoping to get the by Leica advertised "1 second startup"....
k-hawinkler Posted July 18, 2013 Share #56 Posted July 18, 2013 It is indeed a bit sluggish. Acceptable but that is all. I am using Panasonic 16 GB Gold class 10 cards which are rated read 90 write 25. I just inserted a Lexar Professional 16 GB class 10 600x card. I couldn't believe my eyes - startup is virtually instantaneous.. Switch on - lift to eye- the camera is already waiting for me. And C is simply continuous - I stopped the experiment at 100 shots in just over a minute..... Although it varies with the shutterspeed. With 1/2 sec it is a steady 2/sec, with 1/100th it is discontinous bursts with steady parts in between. Annoying, but still very good. I will try to get a 900x card ( haven't found one yet)next and see what happens It seems the buffer can write as fast as the card can accept. Hi Jaap, Thanks. Congratulations! Maybe it matters who does it and not what is being done. Kidding aside. I certainly believe you. Could you please describe your procedure in more detail? I certainly would like to explore this area if and when i finally get my M. Also, about the 900x card, what information is available about it? Thanks again. k-hawinkler Posted July 18, 2013 Share #60 Posted July 18, 2013 I only found 900x and 1000x in CF. Hi Jaap, Thanks. I have two of the 1000x CF cards and use them in my D800E. I just wish that camera had a higher frame rate and larger buffer for shooting stills. Nevertheless, it seems to work pretty well.
