A used XV already?

One UK dealer lists a mint used XV camera with a saving of £250 on the new price. It does make you wonder how a buyer can become so disenchanted with a new Leica so quickly. But I guess there are those who order on specification before the product is launched and before having the chance to handle the kit before commitment.

On 16th of June there had been already a second hand XV advertised in the german blue forum for 2150 Euro, being 450 Euro below new price.

A spare battery was included as well, that brings the losses for this "poor guy" well above 600 Euro.

The owner claimed that the VX had only 70 shots, just a few days old, and he sold it because the XV pic quality did not came to a level of his full format M! (most likely M9).

The XV was probably sold before Huff and Ming & Co reported the excellent quality of the VX. Maybe he regrets now:D:D

I shamelessly quote one of my recent posts: "The writing is on the wall, it will be a slow seller......". I Shot It will soon award XVs as prices to contest winners as they seem to have become the biggest buyer of Leica`s slow movers, including the V40 and X2 (Leica owns 25,1% of I Shot It).

Too early to say

We also don't know what Leicas forecast was, can't be massive for such an expensive camera.

I have spoken to three dealers in the UK, all of whom sold either their first or second batch completely.

However, after initial demand we are now in BAU mode, lets see how it goes.

Seeing a second hand one means nothing, many M9s were returned by DSLRS refugees who didn't get on with it and I have seen M240s.

All cameras come down in price to their natural level. Leica is only sustained by slow production.

Since they have solved this on the x-vario, it is natural that it will come down.

The X2 is discounted from many sellers for example.

Ecaton -

I don't understand how using the XV as a contest prize indicates that it's a slow seller. In the contests I've seen the organizers select prizes with the hope of attracting many participants. The more recent contest examples that come to mind are ones awarding iPads and iPad Minis.

I was referring to "I Shot IT" a company in which Leica owns a 25.1% stake and which runs photo contests with the winners receiving Leica camera and cash prices. Except for on or two MMs, camera prices of this platform are always the V-Lux 40 and X2, the slow movers on Leica`s shelfs. I Shot It charges contest participants a fee, which is used (among others) to buy cameras from Leica Camera AG.

I too predicted that this would be a slow seller. One early indicator is pre-order level. The hot sellers are sold out within a few days of announcement and back order wait times are long. For example the Sony RX-1 was sold out almost immediately (same price point) and for three months after shipments started the only resale ones were by scalpers charging above list price. Simply put, the camera is over priced for what it offers compared to competitors. Had it been full frame there would be waiting lists right now. Even going with an APS-H sensor would have separated it from the rest of the market. A built in EVF would have been another option that would have distinguished it. Well built will only carry you so far on a high tech product that will be obsoleted all too quickly. It is evident to anyone with a technology background that some revolutionary new sensors are nearing production that will be game changers. Unfortunately, no one has yet figured out how to make a camera with interchangeable sensors so that the body would be worth keeping. Unless your usage is so demanding that you need the best built to keep your professional work requirements met and you can justify replacement as needed, paying for overbuilt is purely for ego.

This barJohn has only made negative remarks in his last 20 to 30 post, no useful contributions, didn't go back any further, extremely boring, some people only find the negative aspects of everything, sort of like armchair pontificators .
