IkarusJohn Posted July 7, 2013 Share #41 Posted July 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the 35 Summilux ASPH (FLE). It gets progressively less use over time Interesting though as before I got into Leica it was my primary FL for decades on my Nikon F3/T and my little Contax T3 (that rarely left my side), and it was therefore the first FL that I bought for the Leica. With time I just see things differently through the Leica. I still use 35mm as an all-round general purpose lens for more "casual" photography when I only want one lens - family functions etc. It's not the quality of the lens which is outstanding, but a focal length that I use less than before, preferring 50 and 28mm (and 21mm) for my more "serious" photography. +1 It's my least used lens. Advertisement Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Hi IkarusJohn, Take a look here THE one lens you can't possibly part with?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
MarkP Posted July 8, 2013 Share #42 Posted July 8, 2013 +1 It's my least used lens. Strange. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Interestingly, I took it out yesterday on my Monochrom when my wife and I went for a walk down to Sydney's Clovelly beach & surrounds. Glorious sunny winter day - glorious photographs. The lens renders beautifully on the Monochrom. However, every time I framed a photograph I wished I had a 50 or 28! Guest borge Posted July 8, 2013 Share #43 Posted July 8, 2013 However, every time I framed a photograph I wished I had a 50 or 28! Every time I have the 35 FLE on the MM I wish I had the 50 on it instead. Then again the streets are very wide and open where I live. Lot's of room for everyone to be in. In other cities / places that are much tighter the 35mm will probably better. I always found the 28 a bit too wide no matter what (impossible to frame accurately on a digital M, especially with glasses on). The FLE is a gorgeous lens in every way. I wish I would use it more... :| Feels like a waste just letting it gather dust!

But I can't bring myself to sell it - never sell a Leica lens unless it's to feed your starving children...but then maybe... Maybe it's just a 21/28/50 phase to be replaced some time by a 35/75/135 phase etc.

The streets are rather sparse and unsuitable for wides, so I tend to use 28mm only when I travel. Which is not that often, so I decided to sell off the Elmarit ASPH this week and stick with the 35mm Biogon on MDa for backup when I need a wide angle. I've decided to use just one lens on each body this year, and I had planned for my 75mm Summarit on the M6. But as luck would have it, I came across a mint 75mm Summicron which had belonged to the seller's recently deceased uncle. He didn't know how much it was worth so he offered it to me for the price of an entry level Voigtlander. I felt guilty so I offered him the same price I could get for my Summarit (which I sold on to a friend). The neat effect being I ended up swapping my Summarit for a 75mm Summicron at zero cost. Happiness.
Guest borge Posted July 8, 2013 Share #46 Posted July 8, 2013 But I can't bring myself to sell it - never sell a Leica lens unless it's to feed your starving children...but then maybe... Maybe it's just a 21/28/50 phase to be replaced some time by a 35/75/135 phase etc. I just sold mine one hour ago. I've been trying to be friends with it for the last four months but nothing that I've used it for so far pleased me at all. It has absolutely nothing to do with the lens, as it is an amazing lens. I guess the 35mm focal length just wasn't as ideal for me as I thought it would be. The bokeh of the 35/1.4 FLE was also a bit rough so I didn't like shooting it wide open in many situations. I guess I've been spoilt by the 1.4/50 ASPH's creamy bokeh. So time to try something new... It's weird: I almost feel like don't need anything except a 50. I don't feel the need for anything wider - at all for what I do - and I don't feel the need for something longer... Maybe I should just stick with one lens

TheGodParticle/Hari Posted July 13, 2013 Share #49 Posted July 13, 2013 My lenses and I ... "Till death do us part" I see no reason why I should let any go Death creates a void life has no answer to. But time is owned neither by life ... Or by death ... And time has a way of dulling things out as it progresses
henning Posted July 19, 2013 Share #50 Posted July 19, 2013 Just one lens and get rid of everything else??? A strange concept, but I would go with the 35/1.4 ASPH, as I sometimes go out with just that. Sometimes with just the 50/.14 ASPH. Sometimes a 21. Sometimes the 50 Elmar-M. My preferred small outfit in the summer is: WATE, MATE, 34/1.4 ASPH, 90 macro Elmar. Sometimes just the MATE and the 90 macro. In winter, or low light: 21, 35, 75 Lux. james.liam Posted July 19, 2013 Share #51 Posted July 19, 2013 Many comments above about the 35 and its suitability/unsuitability.. I wonder how much of that is the perspective provided by the viewfinder magnifications of the specific M body used, as opposed to the FL of the lens itself. ananda Posted July 19, 2013 Share #52 Posted July 19, 2013 OK, well I would not part with my 50 Lux ASPH. But it's my prime lens and I don't own another M lens except the 2.8 28 ASPH. I like to travel fast and light personally and on assignment for a newspaper sometimes overseas.I adore the M 240 so far. Had it a month. Snapping away like a rabid piranha. I did sell a 28 Summicron, a rare "chrome" one, so I could buy the M 240. But I HAD to have a 28 and so bought a used 28 2.8 ASPH. And I don't now miss the Summicron. The 2.8 is very fine, and O so small.
CaptZoom Posted July 19, 2013 Share #53 Posted July 19, 2013 I did a quick filter in LR to see my most used lens, and the 50mm Ziess f/2 Planar and CV f/1.5 are pretty much tied for first place (being within one standard deviation). So I'd choose one of the two (depending on my mood at decision time).
dickgrafixstop Posted July 19, 2013 Share #54 Posted July 19, 2013 Easy question for me - 35mm lux followed closely by 75mm summicron.
jplomley Posted July 19, 2013 Share #55 Posted July 19, 2013 28 Cron Asph + 50 Lux Asph. A perfect compliment and two of Leica's very best formulas.
rob139 Posted July 20, 2013 Share #56 Posted July 20, 2013 I think my 35 mm summicron. Still doubting if it will be the version I, or the ASPH.
