macjonny1 Posted June 29, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 29, 2013 I've had my M for 2 months & have never once used Live View (& I probably never will). Curious to see what others are doing. There are numerous discussions about the EVF (which is live view) so it would seem most do at least some of the time

digitalfx Posted June 29, 2013 Share #4 Posted June 29, 2013 I use LV all the time...although 80+% of the time I rely on the rangefinder. I find LV a tremendous asset to assist the RF + it adds the ability to use lenses that are not possible on previous M systems...like my 100mm R APO Macro w/ 1:1 http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/other/275160-m-photos-r-lenses-open-all.html#post2384511

snooper Posted June 29, 2013 Share #6 Posted June 29, 2013 Tried in high and low lights, but couldn't focus properly.. At 1.4 on the Lux 50mm, just forget it. My conclusion : use the M as any M camera, and it becomes a very nice camera :-)
doolittle Posted June 29, 2013 Share #7 Posted June 29, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) It must come in handy for ultra wide angle lenses and graduated ND filter use.
lct Posted June 29, 2013 Share #8 Posted June 29, 2013 I bought an Oly EVF by curiosity but it is not my cup of tea. The rangefinder is vastly superior and the EVF cannot compete with a good DSLR. I keep briging it in my bag just in case though. It is much smaller than a Visoflex after all and i might wish to use it from time to time on a tripod. My conclusion : use the M as any M camera, and it becomes a very nice camera :-) did you adjust the diopter? I have no problems at all focusing any of my summilux or noctilux lenses all wide open. I actually find it a breeze to use on the Noctilux wide open. I did find that the diopter gets bumped every time I use it...I got in the habit of setting it ech time i put it on the camera. If its not set correctly its very difficult to focus.
erudolph Posted June 30, 2013 Share #10 Posted June 30, 2013 The M ovf is great but I also enjoy the evf for precise framing.
crispy12 Posted June 30, 2013 Share #11 Posted June 30, 2013 I use it with my visoflex and 65 Elmar. Great for macro shots, works well without needing to buy an external EVF (that I incidentally already have for my m43 camera)

voightL Posted June 30, 2013 Share #13 Posted June 30, 2013 Since I got it for a month, it allows me to re-live my OM experience. Have been shooting 99.9% of the time with all my Zuikos on LV or EVF.
snooper Posted June 30, 2013 Share #14 Posted June 30, 2013 did you adjust the diopter? Hello, I think the OP is all about Live View. Adjusting any kind of diopter won't really help to focus using LV. You guys can focus and be sharp with a 50mm Lux wide open, shooting a portrait, no tripod ? Somehow I don't even think LV was implemented with this purpose in mind. I always felt that "it's not because it comes with the camera that I have to use it". Best regards,
Shade Posted June 30, 2013 Share #15 Posted June 30, 2013 Yes I do use liveview every now and then, I find it a useful trait especially at angles where my eye wont be able to reach the RF window properly!
thighslapper Posted June 30, 2013 Share #16 Posted June 30, 2013 Internal shots with W/A lenses and the EVF ..... composing and keeping things vertical etc. is a real boon. Otherwise, hardly at all.
Peter H Posted June 30, 2013 Share #17 Posted June 30, 2013 I don't yet have an M, but I know that live view would be very useful on some of the relatively rare but important occasions when I use a tripod. I can't imagine having the facility to be untra-precise in framing and focussing and never ever having a use for it.
digitalfx Posted June 30, 2013 Share #18 Posted June 30, 2013 Hello, I think the OP is all about Live View. Adjusting any kind of diopter won't really help to focus using LV. I always felt that "it's not because it comes with the camera that I have to use it". Best regards, I am referring to the diopter in the EVF. If you haven't adjusted it, then this is your issue. If the diopter is not set properly the image is not sharp and therefore focusing with LV is not easy, if not impossible. And yes, I never use a tripod and have no trouble shooting the Noctilux or Summilux wide open and getting sharp images as can most Leica photographers. Have you looked in the images section of this forum? LV is intended as a tool to aid the photographer. I find it extremely useful for focusing in certain situations where it is difficult with the RF, in those situations I have absolutely no issues getting images perfectly sharp wide open...even at .95 Focusing using LV on the rear LCD is also very easy, make sure you have enabled the auto zoom function. This makes LV a very practical tool to aid the photographer.
badmuts32 Posted July 2, 2013 Share #19 Posted July 2, 2013 I use Live View with EVF with my super elmar 18mm and Elmarit 135mm lens. For the rest if my lenses I use the rangfinder mechanism.
algrove Posted July 5, 2013 Share #20 Posted July 5, 2013 I use the EVF with my R lenses and long M lenses without a problem.
