HV25 Posted June 24, 2013 Share #1 Posted June 24, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Like a few others I'm waiting for the day to arrive when I can take delivery of my new M240. And I know that I might be waiting for a while. Reading various different threads it strikes me that not every brand-new M9 or M240 has been flawless when it was picked up by its proud new owner. I understand that dust on the sensor or a misaligned viewfinder may be a rare occurrence - or is it not ? ... and are there any other things that could be wrong with the new M240 when its delivered ? Which leads me to my question: Based on everybody's experience - what are the things you would check before picking up a new M240 from your dealer and leaving the store with your new possession ? 01af Posted June 24, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 24, 2013 The carrying strap. Seriously. Mine was screwed up ... and poor material quality to begin with. Apart from that—no complains.
farnz Posted June 24, 2013 Share #3 Posted June 24, 2013 Since I note that you're in the UK: that there is a lead with a UK plug supplied (separately) for the battery charger. Unfortunately the UK plug is too large to fit into the packaging and it's commonly forgotten. Pete.
Jager Posted June 24, 2013 Share #4 Posted June 24, 2013 Well, for me I just savor the trip home, glancing over frequently at the passenger seat where the box with my new treasure awaits. Then, when I get home, I take it out, charge up the battery, and go take pictures!

I'd make sure I am awake and not hallucinating that an M has arrived.

I agree, the quality of the strap seems to be getting worse.

thighslapper Posted June 25, 2013 Share #8 Posted June 25, 2013 Depends whether you are used to using an M9 or similar..... 1. Borrow a 75/2 or similar from them, check rangefinder coincidence at infinity...... well as far away as you can find a subject...... Take a photo of anything with type sloping on the counter at 30deg at close distance. See if your focus point is spot on or not. That's enough for a rough and ready rangefinder alignment check. 2. Use the sensor dirt function on the camera to check the sensor cleanliness ..... this shows up ANYTHING ...... so don't be alarmed by a few specks .... they will probably be hardly visible. If there is a snowstorm then you have a problem. Leica QC seems to pick up most other things ..... there are rarely threads here on mechanical malfunctions (lugs excepting). To be honest ..... are you really going to reject it or leave it behind unless there is a screwdriver poking out of the LCD screen ???

Thank you for the good advise what to look out for and check. ... and no ... having waited for such a long time to get it delivered I probably won't reject it unless something is fundamentally wrong with it but get it fixed. Bill W Posted June 27, 2013 Share #10 Posted June 27, 2013 It can't be worse than the MM strap.... Totally agree. The M8, M9 nylon straps are a lot better. It's sort of like Leica wanted to include a nice leather strap but the engineers got involved in picking out the cows.

Having picked up my new M today I now totally understand what you mean about the strap Never seen anything like it - the strap that came with my X1 camera three years ago was more impressive . That said - this silver chrome M body looks gorgeous and quality !
