Advertisement Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Hi Jessestr, Take a look here 50mm on M8 too narrow for street?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
underground Posted June 17, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 17, 2013 I think it can be at times, For street i usually go for the 28 Elmarit. It's hard for me to keep the 50 Cron off the M8. Its an outstanding lens. Cheers!
Jeff S Posted June 17, 2013 Share #3 Posted June 17, 2013 As with most lens questions...personal preference, no rules. Alley or boulevard? Close up or at a distance? Posed individuals or moving groups? People or objects or buildings? One camera or two? Etc. For me, sometimes yes, sometimes no, but more often 28 or 35. I sometimes like to use a lens that forces me into a different mode. Jeff
iedei Posted June 17, 2013 Share #4 Posted June 17, 2013 i do think 50mm is too narrow on the M8......although it really depends on your shooting style. if you keep some distance, then 50mm can work. If you're like me and like angles and capturing more atmosphere of a place and not just a portrait/person then need wider for sure. i'm addicted to wide these days. 21mm or bust! tredlie Posted June 17, 2013 Share #5 Posted June 17, 2013 Well, 50 on the M8 amounts to 75mm on full frame like M9. I am sort of uncertain but like using my Summarit 2.5/75. Gives you some distance if you find it difficult to shoot people straight into the face from close up as i do.
michali Posted June 17, 2013 Share #6 Posted June 17, 2013 Not to be pedantic, however the crop factor on the M8 is 1.33. The 50mm on the M8 is closer to a 65mm on full frame, rather than a 75mm. The 75mm on the M8 will be closer to a 100mm on full frame.

jippiejee Posted June 17, 2013 Share #10 Posted June 17, 2013 While I'd usually prefer something wider on the M8, like my 35mm summicron or the 28mm elmarit, that's not to say 50mm is an impossible lens to get some streetshots now and then. Or if not 'street' in its most purist sense, then at least it's not so bad for 'street portraiture'. Jessestr Posted June 17, 2013 Author Share #11 Posted June 17, 2013 Well think I'll get the 50 so I can do my portraiture work and get a wider one later on.. As long as it's not "impossible" to do street with it.. I'm okay with that. Nice shot. Netherlands? (Belgium here)
wda Posted June 17, 2013 Share #12 Posted June 17, 2013 I think the combination is great for character studies. Much depends on your priorities. Vary your choice for each session and enjoy the range of results.
