What software did you use for combining the stack?

Yesterday late afternoon I checked the Swaddywell Nature Reserve Peterborough UK 'Ivy Mining Bee' habitat for the first time this year. Weather was very windy with showers and the bees were not so active as others' reports over the last 2 weeks suggested ... but I managed to find a few specimens digging in the limestone soil. Leica X Vario was fitted with a Leitz Elpro Via (2.51 diopter) and an Elpro VIb (4.92 diopter) ... total 7.42 diopter. The light was mainly dull so set the camera to ISO 800. No tripod used ... I was laying on my shoulder on the ground and images were composed using the accessory VF-2 finder. Being relatively lightweight the X Vario lends itself to one handed operation in confined spaces.

Very happy with the X Vario's adaptablity as a close focus camera ... using the c 50 years young 'stacked' Leitz Elpro achromatic close up lenses ... used at the 70mm FF equivalent end of the zoom i.e. the macro setting.

Another Ivy Mining Bee colony visit yesterday ... this time used the 7 diopter Leica Elpro 52 on the X Vario ... the Leitz Elpro VIb plus the Via (screwed together) provides a much cheaper 7.43 diopter option i.e c. £20 vs £300.

... each of the Ivy Mining Bee images have been cropped. The bees will be active until the end of October / early November

After recent high winds and heavy rain, I rescued these dahlia flowers, which were drooping and destined for the compost bin. For a few days, they will adorn our kitchen table.

(Taken in available daylight, using grey card for white balance. Exposure 0.6 sec. f/8 ISO 100 Leica X-Vario)
