Yes ... handheld. Usually have my Berlebach wooden mini tripod with me but this was an unplanned walkabout on my way home. And I've just acquired a Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 small tripod (carbon fiber model) with 90º swingable centre column which plan to use with the X Vario for 1:1 mag. imaging ... using 2x stacked Elpro c/u lenses. Leitz Elpros can enable macro shots every bit as good as marque macro lenses ... and at a fraction of the cost. Most of my Leitz Elpros were acquired for less than £15 each ... some for less than £5. Easy to adapt to modern lenses .. also had two Series VI adapters made by SRB.

Some might prefer to buy a TL 60mm macro lens costing c. £2175 for their TL2 or CL ... but I cant see the point when Elpros can enable comparable results when coupled to an X Vario.

Dunk, I agree. I must find my old Marumi close-up lens attachment and have a go. Very inspirational work!

Hello dear forum members, I finally came to the conclusion that I must have lost my charger for the X Vario and bought a replacement just before my vacation. We just came back from the Baltic Sea and by scrolling through my pictures I once again am deeply satisfied with the outcome from this great camera. Here come to pictures from an outstanding sky over the sea  after sunset. I didn't apply any color corrections, just some minor changes within lights, shadows and contrast:

It's been a while, so I decided to take my XV out for a few shots yesterday.

After a recent wet plate portraiture session I photographed wet plate practitioner Tony Lovell's Leitz EPIS 1000/3.5, 3 element epidiascope lens ... which he uses with 20" x 16"  Collodion wet plates for portraiture on his Hunter Penrose 20" x 24" camera ... Leica M3 shown for scale purposes. EPIS lens weighs 25kg without its mount and lens board and requires front support in addition to its rear mount and lens board ... Two people required to lift it safely

Leica X Vario ISO 800 1/6 sec f10  at 61mm ... Gitzo 190CXPRO4 tripod ... studio ambient daylight and ceiling lights which inadvertently left 'on' ... just a Q&D record shot .

A 30 sec exposure. I am once more impressed by the clean files the Vario produces.
