An experiment to ascertain XV's native minimum focus distance and resultant max. native magnification:

 

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-x1-forum/316633-x-vario-minimum-focus-distance.html#post2602456 … which shows approx. 1/4 life size mag. achievable with a lens to subject distance of 19cm and sensor to subject distance of 27.5cm.

 

If Gobdulm has included 10cm width of the rose in the image then his result is exactly the same as in my experiment where 10cm of the ruler was focused on the 23.6mm wide sensor giving 2.36/10 mag. = 0.236 magnification i.e approx 1/4 life size.

 

In Gobdurn's image above, if the rose flower head is approx 60mm top to bottom and the camera sensor is 15.7mm (15.7mm x 23.6mm), the approximate magnification achieved in the image is 15.7/60 = 0.26 mag i.e approx 1/4 life size

 

Both calculations are in line with the result achieved in my experiment i.e 1/4 life size mag.

 

Conclusion: XV's native magnification is approx 0.25 i.e. 1/4 life size.

 

Leica's published data i.e. 27cm subject width at 30cm distance i.e 23.6/270 = 0.087 mag i.e approx 1/10 life size magnification appears to be somewhat inaccurate - but maybe they have quoted deliberately conservative figures.

 

Adding Leitz Elpro c/u lenses via stepping rings can improve the magnification to beyond 0.5 i.e half life size.
