Overgaard Posted June 16, 2013 Share #44 Posted June 16, 2013 You have an interesting collection of cameras, Jaap. It's cool.

thighslapper Posted June 16, 2013 Share #46 Posted June 16, 2013 Definitely an acquired taste ... (or lack of ) Would look very nice on my Silver Chrome MM though ....
pop Posted June 16, 2013 Share #47 Posted June 16, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...Up front, every non-Leica user I met liked it, some Leica fans did not .. You make me appear to be a Leica fan. It's certainly a bold design.
MarkP Posted June 16, 2013 Share #48 Posted June 16, 2013 Interesting that the negatives come from the UK almost exclusively. Oh, it's not to my Antipodean liking either, I was just being polite as think how boring the world would be if our tastes were all the same. We do have our fair share of the world's deadliest snakes, maybe there's a new export industry for us supplying Leica with skins.
Phil U Posted June 16, 2013 Share #49 Posted June 16, 2013 Good grief. A gordy strap on a gaudy camera. You should give Jay Tsujimura a call, he does matching lizard skin designs for your man jewellery.
AlanJW Posted June 16, 2013 Share #50 Posted June 16, 2013 I really like the engraving. I really don't like the snakeskin.
Paul J Posted June 16, 2013 Share #51 Posted June 16, 2013 That is very damn cool looking camera. The more I look at it the more I like it. I agree. It looks especially cool with the silver Summilux on it. Imagine that silver Noctilux on it??? I like it because, in my mind, the black top shouldn't work with the light leather but it does. I thought I would probably hate snake skin but I don't, it looks amazing. Makes me want to do something to mine though not sure what though yet. I also love the fact it's engraved with Jaap's name. You've properly 'owned' it - For life! Then again I also like some of the LTD Editions which others scream murder at too.
jaapv Posted June 16, 2013 Author Share #52 Posted June 16, 2013 Just one thing. It's lizard.
MarkP Posted June 16, 2013 Share #53 Posted June 16, 2013 Just one thing. It's lizard. Oh. We have lizards too.
dante Posted June 16, 2013 Share #54 Posted June 16, 2013 Tegu leather (lizard as used on cameras and watch straps) comes from lizards that are farmed for the purpose (and largely for food as well). Not by any stretch endangered, or given what they do to other animals in the wild, particularly sympathetic. It's the reptilian version of cow leather. Paul J Posted June 16, 2013 Share #55 Posted June 16, 2013 Oh. We have lizards too. One bite from one of those suckers and the bachteria is gonna take yer leg! Since I am a born and bred Australian living in the UK I am ruining the statistics, sorry.
Guest tanks Posted June 16, 2013 Share #56 Posted June 16, 2013 I like what you have done. I looked at his FB page on various leathers and intrigued about his Python and Crocodile leathers. How did you get it fitted to the camera? I assume you did not go to HK for him to do it.
jaapv Posted June 16, 2013 Author Share #57 Posted June 16, 2013 It is not difficult to do it yourself. Remove the old leatherette, any remaining adhesive (quite a bit on the Monochrom ) can be taken off with white spirit, peel off the backing small bit by small bit as you go to avoid working with an unwieldy sticky thing and stick on starting at the frame line lever. Guest tanks Posted June 16, 2013 Share #58 Posted June 16, 2013 Thanks. Though, I have a local cobbler, and he might be a better choice as I am not very dexterous.
luigi bertolotti Posted June 18, 2013 Share #59 Posted June 18, 2013 Lizard skin isn't so bad.... is the red Leica writing that, frankly, I dislike at all... I would have understood better should it be in Orange.... , the red is for the dot - stop. btw... I have came in the decision that when M will arrive, I won't give away the M8... and will find some skin for it...
