Phoenix 200 by any chance?

Type of film? No, I’ve never used it - this one is from a while ago and was probably either Reala or Ektar…

Way back when I was at photography college I submitted a portfolio of prints for assessment with the title "Flowers of Evil" where I tried to do something different with floral arrangements, dramatizing them by using lighting for effect. I only rediscovered the prints a few days ago and wondered if I could approximate the look of the prints by scanning the negatives. The jury is still out on that...

I think you're very close. It just needs more detail and brightness in the shadow area at the top (IMHO).

Thank you so much Brent. The jpeg for posting here is darker, especially at the top, than the tiff I worked on and any attempt to bring it closer to the tiff in tonality seems to introduce some slight banding in the lit area in the background. Having said that, the original 20” x 24” print looked at in good light does blend at the top to a beautiful luminous dark tone with adequate separation. This I think is where a digital version is going to have different qualities to a silver gelatine print. Both have their strengths of course.

But I do agree that the top part in the image posted does seem to get a bit “lost”, looking at it on my iPad. Thank you again for your reply, I really do appreciate it.

This portrait of a writer dates itself with the presence of an IBM Selectric typewriter at the left. She was a writer and this was taken in 1979--my second year of shooting for a living.

Probably done with my M3ds and 35mm Summicron (purchased as soon as it was released).

Beautiful.  Dogwood Season in NYC.  Looks like it could have been taken down the street from me in Brooklyn.  Here's one from the other day on the south west corner of Prospect Park taken with my M5 "Monochrom" and  35mm 2.5 Skopar on Kentmere 400 Rodinal.

Wonderful photograph.  Reminds me of one of my sister in the newsroom of the Gloucester Daily Times, ca. 1980 with my Miranda, probably.

Love it. That's not even an electric typewriter!
