hansvons Posted February 17, 2024 Share #89370 Posted February 17, 2024 (edited) Kodak 5219 500T converted to B&W, 35mm Summicron ASPH @ f4.0. Click to enlarge. I also find Kodak 5219 highly suitable for B&W, as its grain is prominent and acuity high. It's comparable to Ilford's Delta 400 with a tad more resolving power. Welcome, dear visitor! Thank you, I find I am underexposing a bit especially with the B&W. I suspect part of the problem is trying different film stocks and not getting familiar enough with one to know how it behaves.
stray cat Posted February 18, 2024 Share #89377 Posted February 18, 2024 All film negative stocks behave better with overexposure than they do with underexposure, so it might be worthwhile rating your films at say half the rated ISO (eg set the ISO dial with Portra 400 at 200 instead) for a while and see how that goes. Are you developing the black and white films yourself? You are right to think that staying with one stock for a while will give you a better understanding of your process which can usually then be applied across the board.

Thank you for the advice, I have been shooting a digital M and have become accustomed to protecting the highlights. I guess that does not work so well for film. I am not developing my B&W but would like to in the near future. I thought I would try a few different stocks to see what I liked and then stick with one or two and sort them out. 1
