Kl@usW. Posted November 23, 2023 Share #88490  Posted November 23, 2023 (edited) Museum Columba, Cologne 1. Crucifix, 2 half of 12. Century, Rhineland 2. " The drowned and the saved" , Richard Serra, 1992  The Columba Museum is owned and run by the Arch-Diocese of Cologne. If you have seen the Cathedral, perhaps G.Richters window, and then had a look at the collection of Pop-Art in the Museum Ludwig and one or two local beers, you might be too tired to walk another 10 minutes to the Columba. Once a  town cloister in the reportedly most beautiful medieval part of the city, a heap of rubble after 1944, the site was partially reconstructed by the Swiss architect  Peter Zumthor to become a hidden gem among the museums of Cologne. Irrespective of your spiritual orientation, you should put the Columba on your shortlist. One fun-fact concerning the guy looking at the Ebony Crucifix: At the time of the creation of this crucifix, it was common belief that vision was  an invisible extension of the human body and that the beam of vision would connect  with the object.  So looking at a religious piece of art was a kind of worship, as it would connect the divine object with the human subject physically.. ( for the design nerds: the table is a so called " Eiermann-Table"; after the famous post war architect. The typewriter is an Olivetti; you are encouraged to use it and leave your thoughts... ) Sorry for the many words...  Welcome, dear visitor! fotografr Posted November 24, 2023 Share #88497  Posted November 24, 2023 On 9/29/2023 at 7:29 AM, Ouroboros said: Around 18 months ago a retired photographer friend of mine gave me some rolls of 35mm colour negative films he found in a drawer.  They are all odd branded films that I'd never heard of, the sort of generic C41 100iso thing you'd be given as a freebie when you took your film to the local chemist to have your holiday snaps 'developed'. I think the films are probably anywhere between 20-30 years old.  Two weeks ago I was having a clear-out and found a Canon Sureshot A1 waterproof point and shoot camera in a cupboard, the camera has not been used for a similar length of time.  Fortunately I must have had the foresight to remove the battery when I put the camera away.  I put in a fresh battery and the camera sprang to life so I decided to take it with me for a swim. I thought the camera would probably die instantly in the water, but the seals seem to have survived the long hibernation and the camera lives on!  Swimming two weeks ago with a camera and film with a combined age of between 50-60 years:  Canon Sureshot A1 waterproof p&s C41 100iso negative film of unknown origin.  Welcome, dear visitor!
