Oh, oh. My brain's shut down. Stare as I might, it no longer tricks the larger rectangle into looking blue, red and green - it's still just grey.

I knew it was only a matter of time! Please Klaus, I don't think I want to know!

If that's a nudge, I'm  easy prey: the most difficult part is keeping your eyes really still. Maybe a small sticker in the middle of the turquoise field will help--another in the middle of the grey field... If you then see the after-color field slightly oblique, that's normal.. it shows the rest position of your eye in the socket, the  "phoria". If you want to accentuate this phoria, you might have a whiskey or two before...

If you want some action: https://michaelbach.de/ot/col-lilacChaser/index.html

This is one  example from the most extensive collection of optical illusions I know-- done by a german professor of ophthalmology. As you would expect, he gives  a scientific explanation to every phenomenon; but you might as well just enjoy...

So... a couple of whiskies, eh? Well, if it is after all in the name of scientific research...

(A little bit later...) Thanks so much, Klaus - that lilac chaser provides an excellent example and illustration of the color shift phenomenon - even without whiskey!

I love Velvia. Even for occasional people shots.

Awesome shot. Hopefully you printed this one. 🤠

A very pretty but also a little bit spooky scene. Was this a recent visit? I'm wondering because it looks very empty.

Thanks Philip. This was between Christmas and the end of the year 2018. I'm not sure myself why there are no people around. This was taken in evening winter light outside a church/cathedral; everyone was possibly already at the pub !  😉

So I too fell prey of Christoph's tasty bait and joined the pinhole crew. Here's the result.

As you can see I have some way to go before I'm able to produce the impressive photos shown earlier. My only excuse is that I built the camera myself B). Here's a little piece I wrote about it.

That’s bloody magnificent - dream like!

For what it’s worth, a while back I became interested in the mystical world of pinhole. Reading here and there, one tip I remember is to form an indent in a thin sheet of metal, but not sufficient to puncture the material. Then sand or gently file the hill formed by deformation until the first hint of hole appears. Of course it’s a bit of guesswork to know when to stop, but as always an educated guess is better than nothing.

That's a great idea. I've just thrown a bulk film box in the recycling. I'm going to have to rummage through it now aren't I!

When I read "hottest scooter in town" I was expecting to see some fancy Vespa or Lamberetta...  As I scrolled down, I saw what looked like a lamp post at first and thought, hmm... maybe he's uploaded the wrong photo!

Congratulations on the effort. And for the participation !

There we are. And I found a Kodak D76 box in there so I can make a fancy dress party costume for a tortoise.

Now, where can a find a tortoise?

Maybe it's the size of your monitor; stare at the cerulean strip for 30 seconds, then "wide-eye focus" on the gray field. There is good example to use wide-eyed focus on a stereopair of photographs taken with a Wild Leitz aerial camera published in Edward R. Tufte's Envisioning Information (17). Using wide-eyed or pie-eyed focus, you can see the stereogram in 3D without an optical viewer. Use this same "cross-eyed" technique to lapse into the land of complementary color field excursions. If you start reciting Lucky's speech from Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, don't call Nurse Ratched. Perhaps, speed dial Dr. Klaus.

All three of Tufte's books--Envisioning Information, Visual Explanations, and Beautiful Evidence--are worthwhile.
