We spent a lot of time in Lightroom looking at digital and film files, and he's keen on film. I enjoyed the process and results so much that I think I might commit to film for 2019. As a bonus, the prospect of sharing the film photography experience with him is very appealing.

That's awesome, John.  We should all be so lucky.   I am sure there is a lot you can teach him and the experiences that you'll have with it will, I'm sure, be wonderful.  Enjoy and feel free to share here!

My first thought was, that I want to see the b/w-version too.... But, no this photo is outstanding as it is. Great Adam!

I do not wish to intrude upon a public, yet semi private exchange, but your words resonated with me, albeit in a melancholy manner.

During a recent family vacation, on which I took film as well as digital bodies, my youngest daughter handed me back my M7 after about 5 minutes, telling me that she could not be bothered with a camera that did not immediately show her results. My middle daughter liked to take some pictures with my model II(D) from 1932 on a recent hike, exclaiming that it was good fun, but could not be persuaded to attend to exposure estimation and manual focus consistently (generation iPhone) leading to rather spurious results. The eldest daughter is an engineer but fully absorbed by expecting maternity. My wife thinks I am crazy with these oldfashioned cameras anyway. Thus I am rather alone with my silver halides :(

Congratulations on the coming of your beautiful child......and a very nice photograph. For what it is worth, My experience with the Cinestill color films is 800 works, sometimes, indoors, under artificial lighting,  while the 50 is pretty good outdoors. 800 is somewhat of a crap-shoot under almost any circumstance. The best, i.e most accurate, result ever obtained was in a gymnasium. If it were not for the fairly high price of the 50, I would use it a lot more often.

@Wayne I've never tried the 50D and yes, Cinestill is way expensive. Have you thought of getting the original kodak film and then removing the rem-jet? It should cut the cost of the roll by half, more or less.

It's no intrusion at all. My daughters are just like yours. My son works in IT in the space industry, yet he's somehow anti-technology. No smartphone. No social media. No car - bicycle only. All very deliberate choices. So his photography preference doesn't surprise me. We'll see if he sticks with it, given the learning curve and how hard it is to produce good results. 

Ultimately, like all art forms, photography is a solo discipline. But to be able to share a passion with your kids is wonderful.

Thanks a lot Edward! Normally I always use daylight, in most cases frontal light. So I measure one time the right exposure to light and can focus on taking photos. But in this case it was too dark and I had to use continuous light.

O man, you disappoint me, how can you dare? Incredible!!! The Portra is so amazing for this photo. But for sure the film paradise will be closed for you for centuries. You will enter the digital heaven (!!) where you have to take photos with the most modern digital cameras, every hour, every week, every year. No winter and landscape photos in NY or the the dead see. Only photos of brick walls to decide which sensor is better. And of course no ISO girls for you (thats why we use the Tmax 3200 in the film heaven)...

Always a challenge for me to divorce color from objective context so it becomes the subject in itself. The objects of these color fields, however, generally start with common colored textures.

Superb color Adam must be keep in color specially for red and for details + color in the shadows

when you compare with converted  b&w  photo
