Hmmmmm. The burlesque routine continues as mini-M removes some more cardboard frock. :)

Still not possible to 100% confirm the lens type, but it looks to me more like the X2's retracting style lens, not the non-retracting one in the leaked photo.

my 2 ct:

on the right top-side of the pic, one can see that there is a build-in flash.

From the details on the lens, I would bet on a fixed zoom lens.

Height of camera is between M and X...

Nothing more:cool:

I don't see any metal tabs sticking up where the hot shoe would be. I wonder if the possibility of an integrated EVF is back on the table. In fact, if the French leaked photo is a fake, then a lot of things are possible once again. More megapixels, larger size sensor? Improvements in focussing speed? Faster lens? Fixed focal length instead of zoom? Hmmmmmmm.

This thing just got interesting again. :D

Soz to burst your excitement bubble but I think you're looking too far into this. I see a hot shoe. It's just not as prominent as it's recessed into the new top plate. But they removed the X2's flash off the first undressing pic so who knows if they are leaving anything else off.

I want to be the first to say that a compact fixed zoom APS-C camera would be very exciting to me,

there is nothing else like it on the market, if you want interchangeable FF get a M, interchangeable APS-C there is alot of choice.

I agree, although I'm not too sure that we can really infer much from the 'box'.

The Facebook leak (most seem to think it's faked) suggested a 24.1mpx APS-C sensor. Such a sensor exists in Sony's stable of course, and Sony provide the sensor in the existing X series don't they........

The same leak suggested an Elmarit Vario, which of necessity would be bigger than the X2's fixed 24mm Elmarit hence a bigger camera.....

A not too difficult guess at specs by the 'leaks' author perhaps, or maybe more than a coincidence? Who knows, I don't, but from Leica's point of view an 'X3 Vario' would be a logical next step in that series.

Not the first I think ;), this was discussed quite a few pages back if memory serves :).

If we recollect evolutions of other Leica compacts in the past (Mini 3, then Mini 3 Zoom; Minilux, then Minilux Zoom; CM, then CM Zoom), we should expect, either on 11th June or some other time, an X camera with a zoom lens. But it should belong to the "X" family, that is, a "Micro" one, right?

HI There Steve

I don't think he said it was the first (Sony R1 I think) - but the Canon G1x certainly doesn't count (sensor not much bigger than µ43), so it certainly would be the only one on the market at the moment.

Agreed. I am thinking (dreaming?) about either 1) best-in-class performance for this category using an APS-C sized sensor, or, 2) maybe an APS-H sensor (not sure if anyone has it, either a camera mfr, or supplier).

I previously assumed the "leaked" photo/spec was accurate, but, Leica's latest "reveal" earlier today makes me think otherwise. :D
