I'm sure it will be a fine camera, but no real competitor? It seems to me that it will have some competition from the Fuji X-Pro1 and XE-1, which are also APS-C and offer a good zoom, but also offer a viewfinder and interchangeable lenses.

Indeed the X-E1 (same sensor chip, different CFA) with its bundled 18–55 mm zoom (with image stabiliser) would be about the same size and is offered at a much lower price. No red dot though.

I do not understand why it's a MINI and the existing X2 is deemed to be MICRO

It is smaller than the M but bigger than the X2. ‘Mini’, ‘Micro’, and ‘Nano’ referred to size only.

Well, amazing how many comments the Leica X2 Vario has triggered, condemning an about to be released product.

Some time ago I had this camera in working order for a few weeks, and took many pictures. I was amazed about the crisp clean pictures, perfectly focused even under

difficult light conditions , amazing colors, like the one people adjust their pictures in

post processing

I did not find the camera bulky and as I frequently use the TriElmar on the M 240 I really welcome the wider zoom range.

The Sony RX1 was frequently referred to. Yes I have one and I found I often wished it had a 75 mm equivalent lens.

By the way my most versatile combination is the M 240, the R lens adaptor and the R

Vario 28 to 90 mm, 35 to 70 mm / f=2.8 next.

As you will try the X2 Vario you will be pleasantly surprised, and I told Leica that with a

certain amount of sadness I returned the camera, now hoping to be able to buy on as I am heading to go sailing .

I will share the pictures with you.

Okay, time is almost up.

Participants to this thread might consider that they are a minority of the market for a new Leica camera, and Leica is more than aware of that fact.

Just roll over and die, go to sleep, or seek the real part of your life other than posting impressionistic opinions during your employers' time.

The market will make its own decision and it has no awareness of the Leica M mavens' concern.

Perhaps you could start. Oh wait, too late- you already took some of your employer's time to participate in thread. Oh well, we'll just have to count you amongst us who've apparently lost real parts of our lives.

It's the 11th now in Asia. Has anyone in Hong Kong or Singapore seen this camera in person yet at any of the Leica stores?

I hope Leica make a ton of money off of this over priced little point and shoot, and use the profits to pour more money into R&D and increased production for more advanced models, like the M240.

... or they'll use the profits to make more cameras like this instead of like the M240.

Now that it's finally become real, the Mini-M looks great as a well positioned & versatile little street & portrait camera. I don't think f1.4 bokeh is everything or always appropriate. It should be used judiciously & in moderation to have impact in a body of work. I shoot on the street at mostly f8 these days. I own both tri-elmars for my M9/MM, both of which are at f4 minimum aperture & both superb performers so I honestly don't understand what all the fuss is about here. The real proof is yet to be seen from the final results in print, I do agree about that but I don't think this is really a camera designed with shooting leaves & flowers in mind. I'm liking this little camera.

Now that this camera has been revealed as having nothing in common with an M, shouldn't this massive thread be moved to the X1/X2 forum?

Perhaps the only interesting aspect of the announcement is that Leica might have at last learned the lesson of needing product to sell from the get-go.

Let's think of products announced 9 months ago which are not yet freely available or at all...

M Typ 240

R lens adapter

Grip in the two variants

APO 50 Summicron

External Microphone - I mean how does it take to rebrand an existing product and double the price?

I would have bought one of these in an instant if it had been able to mount M lenses, in spite of the crop factor.
