It appears to reside squarely at the intersection of "uncompetitive" and "overpriced."

since when does Leica compete on price and features ?

thats a mass manufacturer game. We are talking about a company whose 3 year production on their top selling camera is less then a month of one model of Sony

it's USP is quality of construction, lens quality, handling and chic

if you have to ask the price ......

All the 'peek-a-boo' silliness is getting to be rather boring ... the novelty is wearing off and many of us have wasted a lot of time waiting for the next thrilling (not so now) instalment.

There is a lot to be said for the 'sock it to me NOW' approach.

This is a digital camera ... not the Messiah's second coming ... even though some may think otherwise.

And by the way things are moving we will all know before 11 June what Gypsy Rose looks like and also be aware of the specification ... which will make the Leica Mini M Day something of an anti-climax ... a bit like hearing a repeat news broadcast on the radio or TV when second time around it all seems 'old hat'.

And since when did I lump Leica into the mix of everyday manufacturers?

Read more carefully. I am aware of Leica's tangibles and intangibles. And after weighing it all, this appears underwhelming.

Also, this remains speculative and incomplete until we get all details from L on the 11th.

Call me suspicious but......

I can't see that Leica Asia Pacific flyer anywhere (other than the rumour sites). We have members in that part of the world so if it's genuine one of them ought to have received it. Calling Singapore, confirmation anyone?

(Out of idle curiosity I've emailed them. I would have called, but it's close to midnight local over there ;):)).

If you are an M owner -- any digital M -- the reason I could see for the new X-Vario to have appeal would be if it were of a size where you could throw it in a brief case or coat pocket when you really wouldn't want to have a full-sized M. But the dimensions aren't all that 'mini' -- with the fixed zoom lens, it's pretty close in size to an M. Yes, I know it's slightly heavier with the lens than the M without one, but the dimensions, all in, put this in the same rough zone as carrying an M and lens.

I can see this appealing to someone who would like an X2, but needs a zoom. And honestly, it seems like it will be a good camera for some who wants Leica quality, doesn't want a 35mm RX-1 or X2, and doesn't have $10k to plunk down for an M + lens.

But the fixed zoom size, and overall dimensions, mean this doesn't really appeal to me as an M owner, as it doesn't fill a gap. If I'm going to carry a camera of similar dimensions, I'll carry my M and some Summilux. So this isn't going to likely appeal to those of us on this sub-forum, I'd bet. Or am I wrong?

Aw, c'mon, it's junk.

If there were a separate APS-C 28-75mm (35mm equivalent) 3.5-6.3 lens for sale on any interchangeable lens APS-C camera - say a Sony NEX 7 or Fuji XE-l, would you buy it? No, of course not.

This thing costs much more than the interchangeable lens competition, equipped with faster lenses and with built in EVFs. This is Leica just taking the p**s!
