pico Posted May 28, 2013 Share #701 Posted May 28, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I rather think the "leaked" image is bogus. The engraving on the front bezel of the lens looks as if several strings were engraved on straight lines and then roughly assembled in parallel to the rim of the lens. The faker clearly does not know how to set text on a line, nor how to kern. -- Pico - the show off
Advertisement Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Hi pico, Take a look here Mini M? [MERGED] AKA X-Vario. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
IkarusJohn Posted May 28, 2013 Share #702 Posted May 28, 2013 It is surely a fake - the official picture looks like this: Welcome, dear visitor! Albertzingue Posted May 28, 2013 Share #704 Posted May 28, 2013 A Leica M(essersucher) without an actual Messersucher and which does not take M-mount lenses, and is stuck with a f 3.5 zoom lens? If the leak is true, this could be a marketing asset disaster.
peterv Posted May 28, 2013 Share #705 Posted May 28, 2013 Now that would be a relief, there might still be hope.
Paul J Posted May 28, 2013 Share #706 Posted May 28, 2013 The faker clearly does not know how to set text on a line, nor how to kern.-- Pico - the show off But enough forethought to place a Stereo Mic on the top plate? I think the lack of kerning etc you speak of is only jpg compression and the fact it's a screen shot of a jpg also. I am afraid that this is very real. I don't believe there will be a lens release on the other side of the lens either though the lack of serial number leaves me, at least, with some hope for this piece of junque. People can scream and shout all they like but it's only their hopes that are disappointing them. Not the realties of making such a small camera. But Pico, your Mock up you posted made me want that. You only have yourself to blame for the hype
pico Posted May 28, 2013 Share #707 Posted May 28, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sun is shining (after a very cold blast), and my M3 is loaded with film - I'm going to take some pictures. Thank you for returning this thread to what really matters! The weather. Seriously, the global constituency tends to abstract in our text world. We in the tropics of Minnesota are about to go mad for the cold. Now, back to our very strange speculations of Leica. I understand they will include weather control in the new model. rramesh Posted May 28, 2013 Share #710 Posted May 28, 2013 I am starting to really love Leica's new business model if this camera is any indication. Every lens from Leica will ship with a camera body firmly fused to it, to immediately enable the user to take pictures. There will no longer be a need to buy a lens and then wait for the camera body to become available.

StephenPatterson Posted May 28, 2013 Share #712 Posted May 28, 2013 This puzzles me, Stephen. Surely Leica is already the first to market with a full frame EVIL camera in the M240? Later, Dr Owl EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder, Interchangeable Lenses) COEVFWRFIL (Clip On Electronic ViewFinder With RangeFinder and Interchangeable Lenses) Not the same thing, as I'm sure Fuji and Sony are aware. Paul J Posted May 28, 2013 Share #713 Posted May 28, 2013 Well it would be great if it really was something special, in an ideal world it would be...And I would like to see Leica beat Sony to an RX1 with exchangeable lenses. Pico's mock up looks superb and realistic/achievable too. The leaked image does look different from the unboxing graphic but that means nothing either because the unboxing graphic is just marketing puff, along with the dopey M titles. All the marketing puff certainly points to something absurdly dopey like the leaked image though. Either way it's probably not a camera I would buy so I'm not that fussed about it. It really wouldn't surprise me if it were as stupid as this leaked image though. Lolz.
adan Posted May 28, 2013 Share #714 Posted May 28, 2013 But what is to believe in? Well, as I mentioned with regard to the M9 - leaks of French dealer spec sheets are batting 1.000 so far. So I'm leaning that way until there is equally serious evidence to the contrary (open-mindedness is good!) (For the global audience, "batting 1.000" is American slang from our game of baseball, meaning "perfect record".) BTW - you can go back on this forum and find the "nay-sayers" of August 2009 - absolutely certain Leica couldn't be about to release a FF M, because of something Stephan Daniels said in June 2009. Just couldn't be real. Ooops! When a leak came out in Fall 2005 that Canon was introducing a FF for $3200, dpreview's forums were full to the rafters with skeptics pounding the table and insisting that IT COULD NOT BE POSSIBLE - no one could make a FF that inexpensively. Ooops! @ Ikarusjohn - PLEASE tell you realize that the marketing cartoon on Leica's home page is just that - a cartoon. A symbolic representation of "new goodie coming." Just as photoshopped (if not more so) as anything else we've seen. "Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Larzon Posted May 28, 2013 Share #715 Posted May 28, 2013 I'm not so deep into this Leica world, but with the research i've done for analog Leicas and looking at the things they made in the last years, I would say that they simply relive the MD. From the teaser picture, the camera seems to be slightly larger (in height) than the X2 and smaller than the RF Ms. So bridging the gap between RF Ms and X2 and hence the new marketing names "mini" and "micro", it must be something between those. Simply adding a new version of the X2 wouldn't make any sense. Maybe replacing the X2, but then all this marketing would be useless. So it must have at least one big difference. I guess it will be a interchangeable lens. Only thing that makes sense, with a look at Leicas history, is a digital version of the MD. more compact, cheaper due to the lack of a VF/RF, maybe with the same sensor than the X2 but with interchangeable lens -> EVIL. Would also make sense with a view on pricing. X2 -> approx. 1700€ M9/M/M-E -> approx. 5000-7000€ A digital MD would fit great with a 3000€-3500€ pricepoint. Bring your own lens of course. captain Posted May 29, 2013 Share #718 Posted May 29, 2013 Yes good news for Fuji indeed. Yep, I love the look but a very very slow fixed lens zoom for more than double probably triple an X-E1 with a much faster zoom kit lens and interchangeable lenses. They lost me (and any entry level users) on this one. What happened to the "Mirrorless System Camera" and "R Solution" Leica CEO Alfred Schopf mentions in his Amateur Photography article in 2012? Fuji, hurry up with the X-E2 with phase detection split image system for my M lenses thanks it would be much appreciated.
Paul J Posted May 29, 2013 Share #719 Posted May 29, 2013 It does seem to appear on the leaked image that the aperture dial concurs with apertures 3.5, a dot for 4, then 5.6 and on. That's quite a tell tale detail I think. It's certainly different from the X2 dial. That, with details like the Stereo Mic, would make for a very elaborate and well conceived hoax. No, I really think this leak is real. I bet they call the increased body height a "design trick" too
