ryee3 Posted May 17, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 17, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here are a few photos I took with my vario elmar 105-280 mm with a apo 2x extender during an early morning visit with the Birdman of Sacramento, Doug Herr. I have always enjoyed seeing and reading Doug's threads on the forum. I was in San Francisco for a conference and Sacramento was just a few hours away so I corresponded with Doug to set up a time to shoot with him. I learned many pearls from Doug about nature photography, i.e. what to wear, what lenses to use, how to use a shoulder stock with a monopod more effectively (the shoulder stock really helped!!). I learned where to look for birds and the how to approach shooting a variety of birds in their most natural habitat. Doug was a great guide and teacher. We even spent some time doing some post processing and workflow. He’s has a encyclopedic fund of knowledge of not only Leica R cameras but the birds themselves. This is the first time I actually posted some photos on the forum. Doug really helped my shooting confidence and I realized how critical focusing needs to be especially when shooting with a telephoto on a monopod. It was a great time and opportunity to learn from a renown Leica photographer. I hope Doug offers more formal courses in the future. I really enjoyed my experience:). Welcome, dear visitor! But who is that fuzz-faced dude in the last photo? I don't recall stirring up a homeless camp Seriously, I do plan on more field workshops along with computer work as time and opportunities permit. I have always been an admirer of his wildlife photography and you gave a very personal account of your visit complete with a few excellent photographs. I hope soon to grace these pages with a few photos using the same lens you did, the 105-280, as I recently purchased one here in Korea as I was inspired by your and Doug's pictures using this lens.
