earleygallery Posted May 14, 2013 Share #21 Posted May 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) It would have been nice if a button could have been programmed to illuminate both, one, or the other frame-line once a lens is mounted. Then to be automatically reset once the lens is removed. Impossible without major surgery/redesign of the whole rangefinder/viewfinder assembly. Again, the frames are the same as in previous M cameras, simply that they are illuminated by an led. Think about it, how could you block the frames from appearing together in an M6 or M8? Advertisement Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Hi earleygallery, Take a look here Lit frames have changed the accuracy of the M(240) RF?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Rick Posted May 14, 2013 Share #22 Posted May 14, 2013 Come on. Can we stop this. The RF has been upgraded with what amounts to a piece of tape over the frame illumination window and a flashlight bulb (ok, LED). This is the high tech update. I admit that I like the end result a lot. But, as far as I can tell the actual RF is the same. No change. Nada. Zip. It has always been this good. lct Posted May 14, 2013 Share #23 Posted May 14, 2013 Not my opinion i must say. The viewfinder has never been that good in my experience. There is obviously less flare and it looks more contrasty.
algrove Posted May 14, 2013 Share #24 Posted May 14, 2013 I am surprised that we did not get this discussion when they brought out the illuminated frame lines for the whatever body (M-199) a few years ago. No one noticed this ease of RF focusing back then?

Rick Posted May 14, 2013 Share #27 Posted May 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not my opinion i must say. The viewfinder has never been that good in my experience. There is obviously less flare and it looks more contrasty. Maybe so. Try putting a piece of black tape over your M9 frame-line illumination window and see if it has more contrast. This is the only change that I know of between the two cameras. If, there was a big new "thing" in the new M, why hasn't Leica mentioned it in detail? I'm going with imagination effect. lct Posted May 14, 2013 Share #28 Posted May 14, 2013 Never got flare issues with your RF patches? The M240 one seems to be flare free.
Jeff S Posted May 14, 2013 Share #29 Posted May 14, 2013 This 'Shade' product was designed to address issues related to the illumination window. I have no affiliation, nor any idea if it works; only that it might be relevant to this discussion. (But it certainly doesn't seem to help one see the frame lines.) lct Posted May 14, 2013 Share #30 Posted May 14, 2013 So you think somebody actually used the M9 Titanium to take pics? They were put off by the lack of strap lugs perhaps...
Jeff S Posted May 14, 2013 Share #31 Posted May 14, 2013 They were put off by the lack of strap lugs perhaps... Well that could now be perceived as a plus. Jeff
Rick Posted May 14, 2013 Share #32 Posted May 14, 2013 Never got flare issues with your RF patches? The M240 one seems to be flare free. I don't really remember flare except flare from the main window. Does that seem better to you? I don't have my M9 to compare anymore... come to think of it, I don't have my M anymore either. It is vacationing in Germany right now.
lct Posted May 14, 2013 Share #33 Posted May 14, 2013 I have no experience enough with the M9, let alone the M9 Ti, but the M240 has the best VF amongst my own bodies (M3, M4-2, M6J, M8.2). They will put no loctite into yours hopefully.
Guest roey Posted May 14, 2013 Share #34 Posted May 14, 2013 Francisco ...... I think you are 100% correct. The elimination of the stray light from the illumination window has improved contrast in the optical system in the Rangefinder mechanism. That is probably the critical factor in people finding focussing 'more accurate'. Nothing else has changed. Proving (or disproving) this should be simple enough: Just stick some tape over the window that illuminates the frames on your M9 and see whether that improves your ability to focus. macjonny1 Posted May 14, 2013 Share #37 Posted May 14, 2013 This is dumb. There is no improvement in the actual RF mech. Leica says it hasn't changed. It hasn't changed. I'm going way out on a limb here but guessing if it had changed then Leica would say so.
rosuna Posted May 14, 2013 Share #38 Posted May 14, 2013 A question for you, lucky guys... The framelines for the 75mm lenses... do remain the same? I have a 75mm lens and hate those framelines...

lct Posted May 14, 2013 Share #40 Posted May 14, 2013 ...The framelines for the 75mm lenses... do remain the same? I have a 75mm lens and hate those framelines... They are more visible for the worst or the better. Not only are they more contrasty like the others but they now have 8 bright segments instead of 4. You can even have them in red if you prefer. No red and yellow stripes though sorry.
