Another M240 review

... and finds none of the colour balance issues that others here have objected to.

But I find them. In his pictures. Reds are over the top and skin tones are radio-active.

That said, I'm sure the bubbly M colours can be tamed with some tinkering or a carefully-made profile. But they definitely are not okay right out of the camera.

Hard to tell on somebody else's images. For instance he says that Camaro is exactly the red as he remembers it. But I find the difference in skin tone between the outdoor shot of the Chinese girl and the one with the Golden Retriever interesting.

I'm put off by gratuitous statements of this type, written perhaps by someone taking camera forum posts too seriously:

No, but I think he wants to say that a lot of people are aggressively defending the M9 while nobody says that the M9 out of the sudden is a bad camera... In some way he is right.

I mainly agree with this review.

But I think the led lit frame lines are really an improvement, specially with frames like those of the 75. The never disappear like they sometimes did with previous M cameras.

On the other hand I don't like the delay when using the new types of metering modes.

In rangefinder mode I reverted to the classic mode. And when I really need spot, I switch to the EVF and manual and then back to the rangefinder. Imo it's faster than to change mode in the menu.

It is to bad that Leica didn't found a way to print or insert only a white spot on matte black blades, instead of that large white blade.

But at the end of the day, I agree that the M is a big improvement over the M9.

Even the M9 suffers from oversaturatlon at it defaults. However, some of the color issues that we are seeing may be down to the way that the jpegs are rendered in the particular browser that you are using. (I have not tried downloading originals and looking at them in a properly color managed application, but it would be worth doing if colors are an important factor.)

If Leica stopped giving all these M240's out into the hands of reviewers, they could get more into the hands of customers. :)

It is almost reaching the point, where I feel guilty for having got mine but then I remember that it has to go back on holiday to Solms. :(

Is it me or did he forget to say what raw converter he's used? Hard to say anything w/o knowing that IMHO.

If you drill down into the data behind the picture, it looks like he used ACR then tweaked in PS.
