wda Posted July 24, 2013 Share #41 Â Posted July 24, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...I'm shooting mostly with the MM and have filters for the 21super elmar, 50&35 Lux that won't fit on the Elmarit but would fit nicely on the Summicron (could use an adapter i know...).... Thx. Â Rafael Rafael, all you talk about is equipment. What subjects do you shoot and what proportion of your photography is done with your 28mm lens? Advertisement Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Hi wda, Take a look here 28mm Elmarit to Summicron - Worth the upgrade ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
semi-ambivalent Posted July 24, 2013 Share #42  Posted July 24, 2013 no, but I don't get this question. why would one do this?  Because one is using an M3?  s-a  PS - Also, the viewfinder is just a window. So many users just don't get that.
skuromis Posted July 24, 2013 Share #43 Â Posted July 24, 2013 no, but I don't get this question. why would one do this? Well, from what I read, because the lens is partially covering the viewfinder. But since I don't have the lens nor have a feeling for this, I just asked my question.
lct Posted July 24, 2013 Share #44 Â Posted July 24, 2013 Because the 28mm framelines are difficult to see with and even w/o spectacles so some people may prefer using an accessory finder.
Leica Frog Posted July 24, 2013 Share #45 Â Posted July 24, 2013 I've used it before, it's not worth, 28 Cron is better but not much to have it, except you need a little bit faster and bigger one, see Ken Rockwell's Review too. Â And I'm not agreed with some comments to have the both, you should choose only one as your purpose, if you need the same E46 filter as 35/50 Lux, I suggest the Elmarit Ver.4 Pre-Asph. Â Sincerely. smkoush Posted July 25, 2013 Share #46 Â Posted July 25, 2013 After using the Elmarit ASPH for few years I switched to the Summicron a couple of months ago. Â Here are some observations: Â - The size of the little Elmarit is fantastic. The Summicron without the hood is as big as the Elmarit with the hood attached. Â - The Elmarit is very very sharp and very very contrasty. I liked the sharpness, there were times in the last few years I wished for less contrast. Â - The Summicron renders differently. Especially at and below f4. They are both extremely sharp, but the rendering is definitely different to my eyes, more pleasing (to me), and I find it much more similar to the 50mm Summilux ASPH as others mentioned. Â - The out of focus rendition of the Summicron at 2.8 and 4 is smoother than the one from the Elmarit. Perhaps the higher contrast of the Elmarit may be the reason for it. Â - At f2 the Summicron renders beautifully. Â - Both lenses are extremely flare resistant. Â - Elmarit is much cheaper, and its hood is perfectly fine. On the other hand the hood of the Summicron...well, if you don't like it there is always the now $600 12466 one. Â Regarding the OP as to whether it is worth the upgrade, well it depends what you need. For me, the extra speed and the different rendering (I had a chance to try one for a little bit) eventually convinced me to switch and I do not regret it. The only one thing I miss is the size of the Elmarit, but if light is flat then I shoot the Summicron without its hood and the form factor is more or less the same. ananda Posted July 25, 2013 Share #47 Â Posted July 25, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have owned both 28 lenses and frankly I think BOTH are quite fine, but the Elmarit is a lot less expensive and also small and I prefer it to the Summicron. I think one would be hard pressed to tell much difference in the output of the 2 lenses, but that's just my opinion. I sold the Summi so I could buy the M, and then I bought the Elmarit. I am quite pleased.
don daniel Posted July 25, 2013 Share #48  Posted July 25, 2013 I don't know the elmarit. But the Summicron renders like this, and this what I want, you need the extra stop over the elmarit and the smooth transition to get this (click to flickr to see higher resolution):  Strandkorb 99 bei Sonnenaufgang von Blende 1.4 auf Flickr  The little girl and the sea von Blende 1.4 auf Flickr
