wlaidlaw Posted June 5, 2013 Share #41 Posted June 5, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I notice the new batteries are marked "Made in Indonesia" - different maker from those with early cameras (mine was in first production shipment)? A.G. Posted July 10, 2013 Share #44 Posted July 10, 2013 I had that EXACT same problem - when I sent in my M to Leica for the camera strap lug replacement I also sent in my battery & described the problem - when my camera was returned it came with a new battery and a note saying my original battery was defective. Overgaard Posted July 10, 2013 Share #47 Posted July 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, the first batteries were from Korea. Both my batteries are from Leica Camera Korea Ltd.
wlaidlaw Posted July 10, 2013 Share #48 Posted July 10, 2013 I suppose like a lot of companies, Leica has gone for dual sourcing of certain components. The Indonesian battery came from a main UK Leica dealer, so I am certain it is genuine. Wilson
thighslapper Posted July 10, 2013 Share #49 Posted July 10, 2013 My original .... from first cameras at beginning of march and two new batteries when they first appeared ..... all from Clifton Cameras .... are all identical and marked Leica Korea ..... although if I recall correctly the packaging of the new ones had 'Varta Indonesia' on it ..... so it is not claer where exactly they are made.... I have a second battery on the way that was ordered in for me so it will be interesting to see source.
jaapv Posted July 10, 2013 Share #51 Posted July 10, 2013 But the Korean batteries come in a plastic wrapper that is very clearly imprinted: "BATTERY MADE BY VARTA IN INDONESIA" So it is anybodies guess.....
pascal_meheut Posted July 12, 2013 Share #52 Posted July 12, 2013 Hi, I had the problem too and according to Leica, this is a known firmware bug which should be fixed in the next release. In my case, it seems to happen more often when I use the LiveView and/or the EVF or maybe SLR lenses adapters btw but I have not been able to nail the exact sequence to reproduce it. brusby Posted August 28, 2013 Share #53 Posted August 28, 2013 I have the same problem and it is definitely intermittent. Below are the results of about 2 dozen tests with the auto power off set to 2 minutes. Also all test were done after resetting the camera to default specs. 1) If the rear screen is illuminated it always goes dark exactly 60 seconds from the last activation. 2) Most of the time the camera turns off as it's supposed to do exactly 2 minutes from the last input (1 minute from when the rear LCD shuts off). 3) When the camera does switch off correctly, the red led at the bottom right of the LCD blinks several times. 4) Every now and then the camera will simply not shut off at all and it will continue to draw down the battery until it's completely drained. A clear indication this is happening is the failure of the red LED to blink at the 2 minute mark. I thought I had detected a pattern because the problem seemed to occur more often when the camera was turned on end as it would normally be oriented in my camera bag. In fact that's how I noticed the problem initially. Went to use the camera the day after a full charge and no power. To rule out that something in the camera bag might have been pressing on the shutter release button, I conducted a bunch of tests with the camera on a table top with nothing touching it. Same results. What was odd at first was that the camera seemed to work perfectly time after time when it was in normal landscape orientation. But when turned on its side in portrait orientation the problem seemed to occur pretty often. I thought that was the key. Maybe the internal level detection mechanism was somehow sending keep alive signals. Unfortunately in several subsequent tests things worked just fine in portrait orientation. So I'm puzzled. One consistent occurrence was that once the camera failed to shut down the first time, it would continue not to turn off automatically until manually cycled off and on again. Hope this helps someone troubleshoot the problem. ps, no live view or EVF was used in my tests.
MediaFotografie Posted October 7, 2013 Share #54 Posted October 7, 2013 ...are there any news for this issue or waiting for new firmware? Occasionally I have the same - again with Sandisk 32 gb extreme and storing the M in the camera bag.
