Hi Everyone,

Has been some time since I have posted here. Been busy making pictures :)

After almost four months of heavy use my M8 has been trouble free. I can recall only one freeze-up during the first week (got fixed by re-inserting the battery). Otherwise it has been working like a champ. I am really happy to have invested in the Leica RF system.

Here is a picture from a couple of days ago; a high school track meet (ISO 160, 90mm APO-Summicron)

Hey Guy, while writing this message I sat on a wooden chair, used a wooden table, and kicked a wooden bowl multiple times :) Just kidding, of course; I have full faith in my M8.

My theory is that M8 troubles show up in the first couple of months; if your M8 is trouble free after a few months then you can relax :)

and this is something to be celebrated? Surely that should be a basic expectation of a £3000 camera...., or a £100 Nikon/Canon compact for that matter! Shouldn't you put your expectation in perspective?

Julian: I trust that you read this forum regularly. You will notice that among the posts regarding the health of the M8 a majority of posts are reporting problems; surely a majority of M8 are not defective. So I am just adding one post which is reporting that so far I have had no problems with the M8. That IS perspective.

Vivek: See my reply to Julian, above. No, it is not an amazing experience (your words not mine); just a light comment. Every post in this forum is not about an amazing experience; why would you infer that this particular post is about an amazing experience? This forum is full of light hearted comments about the M8, not all are about extraordinary and amazing experiences.

Brent: Certainly! Just send me the hundred bucks and I will take care of everything regarding the lottery

The perspective: Some things need to be said from time to time, otherwise we drown in a sea of negatives - read any newspaper.

Hi Furrukh

I applaud your attempt to try and redress the balance with respect to the M8's reliability but to hold up 4 months as a milestone is hardly a paragon of greatness.

I have absolutely no idea how many M8's are defective (some would argue that every one is because it cannot be used without a filter, but I understand the compromise reached to solve that particular issue, and acknowledge the solution is viable). That Leica released a product with so many varied operational issues/flaws clearly shows that it was not competently designed, tested adequately or whos quality control is poor.

I have a significant investment in the Leica product range over many years now and as a result of the M8 fiasco and poor support for the DMR confirm I will never buy a Leica with electronics in it again. Such a shame because many of the lenses are wonderful.
