bradhusick Posted March 29, 2007 Share #1  Posted March 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My solution for a finder with the WATE is the Leica 21-24-28 plus a spirit level mounted on a Voigtlander dual-shoe accessory (I think I got it from cameraquest). Just thought I would share. Pics are low quality from point-and-shoot. We can't all afford two M8's!  Yes, that's a Luigi case and I love it.  -Brad Welcome, dear visitor! Englander Posted March 29, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 29, 2007 You should probably think about switching the level and the finder. The finder was made with a slight offset already with the intent of placing it above the lens. I know it may be more comfortable the way you have it, but it also might make for less accurate framing. Thanks for sharing the idea. Â Joe
Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 29, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 29, 2007 Nice idea and i agree would switch them. But has anyone noticed the luigi case , now that is pretty damn hot looking. Â Maybe I need to get to the bars more
charlesphoto99 Posted March 29, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 29, 2007 Definitely switch the two!! Esp for verticals (in which case even with finder I usually go by placement of lens in relation to subject- esp with my Mamiyas). Nice case but curious about the play button being covered. guywalder Posted March 29, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted March 29, 2007 Definitely switch the two!! Esp for verticals (in which case even with finder I usually go by placement of lens in relation to subject- esp with my Mamiyas). Nice case but curious about the play button being covered. Â looks like it is only the text that is hidden. The case looks like it solves several problems, a built in grip and some protection for the screen, nice! I'd like a flap, hinged along the top. As long as it didnt involve any tacky velcro! Still undecided how to protect the screen. I hate the idea of a stick on film
bradhusick Posted March 29, 2007 Author Share #8 Â Posted March 29, 2007 Definitely switch the two!! Esp for verticals (in which case even with finder I usually go by placement of lens in relation to subject- esp with my Mamiyas). Nice case but curious about the play button being covered. Â When I tried switching them, there was just slightly too little room for the level. I suppose one could dremel a little off that edge and make them fit. Actually, having the finder near the in-camera finder makes it more convenient. Â Also, I don't notice the snaps on the case any more. They're not big, and don't dig in. I am sure Luigi would make it without them for you. Â The case only covers the word, not the PLAY button. Â Thanks for the comments! -Brad

albertknappmd Posted March 29, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted March 29, 2007 It won't but use the screenpatronus protector for that.
xrogers Posted March 29, 2007 Share #13  Posted March 29, 2007 I hate the idea of a stick on film  The quality of these films varies. Some of them visibly reduce contrast and saturation, and are hard to install without small bubbles.  The screenpatronus, on the other hand, is great. It's durable, easily installed, and I don't even know its there. I balked at the price (something like eight bucks for a few bits of cheap plastic, seems as bad as Leica lens caps), but ordered anyway because of multiple recommendations. A whole different world, easily worth the money.  --clyde
Guest sirvine Posted March 29, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted March 29, 2007 Luigi makes a case with the back flap attached across the bottom. Also, access to the buttons is no problem--only the "play" text is covered on mine. The only problem I noticed is that when grabbing the case, I sometimes press a lot of buttons at once. Fortunately, it doesn't actually do anything unless the camera is already awake.

Personally I like the hinged back because I chimp less as a result. LOL Â Woody
bradhusick Posted March 29, 2007 Author Share #16  Posted March 29, 2007 That's a really cool case. Does it keep the LCD from getting scratched? Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography  I use the Hoodman screen protectors. You get a dozen for about $10 and they last a long time. There's one on the camera in the photo - you can see the little removal tab in the lower right hand corner. I use these on lots of things - camcorders, cell phones, etc. For more permanent protection, I use the 3M material available from Best Skins Ever Home Page. It's the same as the stuff used to keep rock chips from the front of cars and helicopter rotor blades. The only thing to watch out for is to remind your wife not to throw away an envelope from "best skins ever" thinking it's some porn.  -Brad
Woody Campbell Posted March 29, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted March 29, 2007 Brad - I use a similar solution. Steve Gandy makes the two-shoe adapter in a lower profile version (that almost touches the top of the M). I'm using a Ricoh GRD finder that has 21 and 28 framelines and is more compact than the Leica finder. The finder goes on the left over the camera eyepiece, which solves the problem caused by the fact that this finder partially blocks the shutter dial if it's put directly in the hotshoe. 2" of paralax doesn't make much difference give the fact that the framing is not that accurate in the first place. Â BTW I have the identical Luigi case.
yoMammabot Posted March 29, 2007 Share #18 Â Posted March 29, 2007 Ive been eyeing the Luigi case to match the incoming strap, but i have a question... Â Do you have to take the whole thing off to change batteries or sd card in the field? Holding the baseplate with your teeth is one thing. Holding the plate and a case is quite another. jonoslack Posted March 29, 2007 Share #19 Â Posted March 29, 2007 Why not use the Frankenfinder - it works well, and it has a built in spirit level which is visible in the viewfinder - added to which it has brightlines rather than a rather vague zoom. Â I've got both, and although the older finder is prettier, it loses out seriously in functionality.
ulphoto Posted March 30, 2007 Share #20 Â Posted March 30, 2007 I'm wondering how to use flash, off camera seems the only option. There must be some way to get flash triggering accomplished while still having the "frankinfinder" mounted on the camera top. Are there low profile hot shoe adapters with a PC plug?
