Yosemite with 18" of fresh snow in the valley: Half Dome from the Curry Village meadow. I posted this in the landscape forum, but I wanted to add it to the collection for the wonderful Digilux 2. kaethe

Ted and David - thank you very much; you're both very kind. To be quite truthful, the cat and the camera did most of the work. I just happened to be there. :)

Philipp, that is the only way to work with cats: Seize the moment!

Lovely tones and detail in the trees.

Thank you, I am continually amazed at the images that come from the D2, with seemingly very little effort, and even though I have an M9, I continue to shoot with the D2 as well. kaethe

Wow

I didn't think D2 was capable of this.

Ive primarily taken photos of easier subjects.

I think i will have to reappraise the D2.

Would you kindly share if any PP was used.

Very little. The shot was taken at 0900ish, to LR and SEP2 for B/W conversion, increased contrast just a touch, then back to LR to use graduated neutral density to lighten the plowed snow pile in the lower right corner. As I said, this camera never ceases to amaze me.

When I look at the picture longer, it grows on me even more! O f course the scenery is very unknown to me living in Europe, I saw it on a lot of pictures, but it must be very impressive.

What i really like when looking longer, is the detail of the small stream and snow in the foreground, this little 'strip' in the picture adds a lot of dimension (to me)

A M series leica will never be in my financial reach, but the D2 that i found is very valuable to me and it is so nice to read that people having a M9 value the D2 that high :)

thanks for posting such a nice picture!

The valley floor is at 4,000 ft, and the snow usually has melted except for areas that are in the shadow of the walls near Curry Village and on the west end of the road coming in from hwy 140. There will still be snow in the high country, Badger Pass and Tioga Pass. The snow details on the southern exposed walls (El Capitan) melt very quickly as soon as the sun comes out and shines on the walls all day, but the face of Half Dome retains its snow further into spring. The third week in April is when the dogwoods are blooming and the winter forests are beginning to wake. The alpenglow in the spring is stunning, and besides, Yosemite is always beautiful whenever you visit, have a wonderful trip.

Thank you Dre.

You are so right.

I took my Kodak slr/c (full frame, no aa), the colours from which i have seen a few forumees on dpredview say is matched only by M9

fitted a Fujinon EBC 35mm f2.8 (for those lovely fuji colours, tones)

this combination should give just sublime colour right.

Well on my local children's playground which is my colour test shot (i have posted a pic of it on the hooked on digilux 2 thread)

Kodak + Fuji could not match the colour accuracy of the D2.

It's interesting to see the arguments and posturing on some threads in the ongoing X1/X100 debate, particularly among the pixel-peepers. I have not seen any images from either that make me want to relegate the old Digilux 2 to the collection cupboard, it stays firmly in my bag. Users of the D2 realise that pixels are certainly not everything and that the colours, tones, apparent dynamic range (from such a small sensor) and b&w performance are what makes this old camera a superb tool for most photographic needs. I am amazed, in this thread, by the diversity of images and styles from users and the general quality and feel of the images are superb. Not being a pixel-peeper, for me the print is the final result, and I produce a lot a lot of 12x9 prints to exhibition quality using this camera using minimal post processing. Yes, I am having a bit of a fling with Nex and CV lenses, and film with Bessas and OM-2, but the D2 is what I usually grab when I go out.

This is from yesterday, not a great day for photography and starting to get dark, but couldn't resist it.
