Over my years of cycling - racing, touring and fixed - I have suffered five fractures of my right collar bone, three fractures of my left collar bone, two broken wrists and a bucket of broken ribs. Over the last couple of years I have started to feel the aftermath of all this and riding has become increasingly uncomfortable with leaning forward and the weight on the old fractures.

Some friends of ours recently bought a couple of Dutch-style bikes and when I had a go I was amazed how comfortable they were and how the upright riding position took the weight of my hands, wrists and shoulders.

Took a big decision and sold my 4 bikes and the wife's Brompton and ordered a couple of Dutchies. I love it. I can only describe it as riding in a Rolls Royce, smooth, sedate, built like a tank and no more aches and pains. Sue wanted a basket and I opted for panniers for the camera gear. I kept my fixie as my youngest is now riding it and it is amazing how much space we have in the garage now!
