tappan Posted February 28, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted February 28, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, Sorry if this topic has possibly been visited by the forum but has anybody here had the experience of using this lens with the M9. There seems to be a question regarding compatibility, with some on the internet saying not to use them together and some saying use but don't collapse. Thanks, Mark p.s anybody have any samples ? :-)
Advertisement Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Hi tappan, Take a look here 50mm Summicron collapsible and the M9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted February 28, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted February 28, 2013 The collapsible Summicron has the shortest tube of all Leica collapsible lenses, so the shutter will be completely safe. Though the real problem could be that the tube intruding the body if you collapse it may scratch the little wheel for moving the rangefinder. Â You can test this with a M for film by looking through the rear window and opening the shutter. I just tried with the collapsible Summicron on an M6: it is very very close to the little wheel, and examples of the lens may differ. The Elmar (older version or new Elmar-M) certainly scratches the little wheel. This problem always existed for all M bodies (the little wheel is always at the same position) but was never revealed or even noticed before the caveat in the manual for the M8. Â So it is recommendable not to collapse the lens - especially when you fix it to the body, or unfix it, but uncollapsed it is completely usable. Â I like the collapsibe Summicron: it's soft wide open and rather intolerant to flare, but you may achieve interesting colours - warmer than the modern lenses. tappan Posted March 1, 2013 Author Share #3 Â Posted March 1, 2013 I have read alot about the lens in the last 2 hours. Significant softness at F2.0 and low contrast. $700USD ish on ebay for a "clean" one. It's amazing that after all these years, this lens still brings in the sales. dpitt Posted March 1, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted March 1, 2013 I use the 50cron collapsible all the time on my M8. It is perfectly collapsible when mounted. Mount and dismount uncollapsed and you are fine. Â This lens is known for its very soft front lens coating. It is very rare to find one without cleaning marks. So try to avoid cleaning with a cloth and always protect it with a filter.
Tonki-M Posted March 1, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted March 1, 2013 do not fret, my friend. if i can collapse my 5cm Summitar into my M9P, you will have no problem with v1 collapsible cron (which is about half of the length protrusion compared to the Summitar)

250swb Posted March 4, 2013 Share #9 Â Posted March 4, 2013 All but one of the collapsible Leica 50mm lenses (M mount and LTM with adapter) will work on the M9 and will safely collapse. The warning about not mounting or or dismounting them in their collapsed position is to avoid clumsy people scratching the inside of the camera. The only exception is the DR Summicron which won't work on the M9 anyway. Â Steve

DianSavitri Posted March 5, 2013 Share #12  Posted March 5, 2013 I have used Summicron 50mm collapsible with M9; no problem for me with good result especially for BW; the lens character is glowing when we use for color that's why we use for BW.
