However they are now rare, often heavily used during their life by professionals and much sought after in good condition, hence very expensive. The 55mm Distagon is an excellent lens. Now if you are feeling super flush with cash, you can still buy a new Rolleiflex, which is assembled by ex F&H employees on a limited production basis. The wide angle one uses an F4 50mm Super Angulon lens and costs $5,375. Wilson Yeah, I knew of them, but I always also knew they cost an arm and a leg. A Hasselblad SWC would always be cheaper. I think a Mamiya 6 or 7 is the most practical option for that kid of shooting, but they don't really excite me that much, not as much as old Rolleiflex do anyway. You are everyone’s friend nowadays with a Rolleiflex (or a Graflex). I have put in an offer to buy an 8 x 11mm Sharan Rolleiflex just for fun. Their only drawback is they're SLRs . I used to have a Mamiya 6, thinking it would be the ideal MF camera for me but somehow it didn't stoke my boiler. I immediately gelled with my Mamiya 330, everything looked good through that camera, and pretty good coming out of it. I sold it to buy the Mamiya 6 . My 500c/m keeps on trucking, and I'll be using it a lot more this coming year since getting a better focusing screen for it. keithd Posted February 21, 2014 Share #208 Posted February 21, 2014 After my OM4's got stolen in 2001 I was gutted and did not shoot anything for 12 months digital was starting to become popular and the catch cry of film is dead was starting to emerge I sat on the fence as to what would I get to replace the om's I loved those cameras. The mamiya 7ii was the choice combined with 65 and 150 mm lens this combo become my new love affair with film I then added the 43mm wide angle its optics speak for themselves. Fast forward to today it is still my favourite camera ( excluding the M240 ) but I did purchase a mamiya 654AFDii on a whim at xmas and am having fun using it auto focus and if I ever have a spare 30-40 k I can put an IQ250 back on it though this is not likely to happen. It's just a great little camera that produces excellent image quality - and it's fun to use. My XPAN II. Why? Fuji glass is just outstanding. Unfortunately, the new Rolleiflex wide lens seems to have noticable barrel distortion, which is not really excusable in a camera where there is no mirror between the lens and the film. Much as I like the 80mm 2.8 GX and FX cameras for the standard focal length, for me, this optical shortcoming of the FW would make the Hasselblad SWC or Mamiya rangefinder cameras a more attractive wide angle proposition. Pico, I agree, very odd. I have never heard anyone complain about the 50/2.8 on the Hasselblad but of course that is a Distagon not a Biogon formation and I don’t know how similar, if at all, they are. Certainly my 25 ZM Biogon is remarkably free from barrel distortion, which is why I bought it for interior shots mainly of yachts but some of restoration buildings. Having a very rectilinear lens, saves a whole lot on PP work, as otherwise you should use a different correction profile for each two stops of aperture. Sadly none of this work has come my way recently, so it sits forlorn and unused but I have the interior of a restored windmill to shoot next month, so it will get dusted off. I don’t yet know how good the 15mm f5.6 Azonon lens is in my Micro TLR Rolleiflex, as I have yet to have any 8 x 11 films developed and printed from it Wilson Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Forgive:) I work with one that covers 6" square as well as the Linhof RF coupled version for 4x5". No movements are possible with the later, however the Super Angulon of the same focal length is entirely unacceptable to me . I should get one for a Leica, and might when I overcome my pleasure with the well-known early Leica 35mm F/1.4 Summilux of which I have used for (gasp) forty years. Sent from my Etcha-sketch. The rated distortion is -1.5% which I found noticeable in on-line samples I downloaded. The distortion graph is given at the back of the manual here: http://www.galerie-photo.com/manuels/manuel-rolleiflex-fx.pdf I would have thought that without a mirror they could have optimised the design around a closer rear nodal point, like a classic Biogon design. I have never been a huge fan of their wide angle lenses made for Leica and others. The Schneider lens on my Rollei Baby is OK but not as super sharp as the Planar on my big Rolleiflex.
