Advertisement Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Hi JCharlton, Take a look here Lens fungus or something else?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted January 22, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted January 22, 2013 Not fungus from what I can see, just internal dust / haze. Â How are your photos? I suspect that you will have issues shooting against the light. A CLA might be a good idea.
JCharlton Posted January 22, 2013 Author Share #3 Â Posted January 22, 2013 The photos are great, actually. I'm just worried it will worsen with time. It's very concentrated in the center, and only clearly visible with a flashlight.
jaapv Posted January 22, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted January 22, 2013 As I said on RFF, have the seller give it a CLA
JCharlton Posted January 23, 2013 Author Share #5 Â Posted January 23, 2013 Where's the best place for a CLA in the US? Â Best, Justin
jaapv Posted January 23, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted January 23, 2013 You bought it at B&H. Call their service department. They should handle it for you; free of charge too imo. Companies that size will have agreements with the service departments of manufacturers. Example: I bought an Elmarit-M 90 at Meister and sent it to Leica to be coded. I was happy with the lens and Meister too. Leica found 450 Euro worth of damage inside the lens. I reported the matter to the seller and received the lens back repaired within two weeks. Leica even waived the cost of the coding, I did not pay one cent. Meister Camera sorted it with Leica CS.

TomB_tx Posted January 23, 2013 Share #8 Â Posted January 23, 2013 Both DAG and Sherry Krauter do a great job of lens CLA at reasonable cost.
tobey bilek Posted January 23, 2013 Share #9 Â Posted January 23, 2013 E bay, well I won`t go there. Â Dag used to charge by the element. Guess 150 to 100 but I am not qualified or authorized to quote for him.

jaapv Posted January 23, 2013 Share #11 Â Posted January 23, 2013 I purchased this lens on ebay, it's 10+ years old. Â In that case I misunderstood, I confused you with an RFF poster with a similar problem. Please disregard.
useless generation Posted January 23, 2013 Share #12 Â Posted January 23, 2013 I just bought the same lens with what appears the exact same issue. Light haze or fungus I emailed youxin and he said he will be able To clean it up. He said as it is a newer lens most fungus shouldn't be too much of an issue to remove. He quoted around $
Erik Gunst Lund Posted January 23, 2013 Share #13 Â Posted January 23, 2013 Looks like separation between two lens elments, the old Canada Balsam has given up... A clean is not enough, a major repair is needed if it is the case.
earleygallery Posted January 23, 2013 Share #14 Â Posted January 23, 2013 I see what you mean Erik, hopefully that is just flare from the light source! Â JC can you post some more pics holding the lens up to daylight from both sides?
Erik Gunst Lund Posted January 23, 2013 Share #15 Â Posted January 23, 2013 The small bobbles looks like heat damage to the Canada Balsam cementing two of the lens elements together, a sectional view of the optics will show if this lens has souch two elements cemented together.
