Advertisement Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Hi zanydave, Take a look here 18mm Super-Elmar. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
thighslapper Posted January 6, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted January 6, 2013 Wonderful lens ...... no real faults and produces very vibrant images. Â ..... but I sold mine as I bought a WATE........ Â Have since got the new 21 SE 3.4 which I feel is better still and a more versatile focal length, particularly for landscape use.

I also vote for the 21 Super Elmar 3.4 I thought about the 18 as well but settled on the 21 instead.
iedei Posted January 6, 2013 Share #4  Posted January 6, 2013 what timing! i JUST got back from looking at this at Adorama.......very cool lens. A bit expensive, but very very nice. I want one.....pretty badly!  the red rim around the edge is quite unusual for a Leica lens! Welcome, dear visitor! UliWer Posted January 6, 2013 Share #6  Posted January 6, 2013 ... the red rim around the edge is quite unusual for a Leica lens!  That's right. I think the red should remind users about the protruding front-lens. Better to use it with the hood.

I want one.....pretty badly! Â the red rim around the edge is quite unusual for a Leica lens! It does look pretty cool. I am very happy with my 21. I am now shopping for a 135. Wish I had kept the one I had a few years ago.
kokoshawnuff Posted January 7, 2013 Share #9 Â Posted January 7, 2013 I shot with one a little bit at a Leica Akademie event and really liked it, only reason I decided to stick with a 21mm is the filter size. As a film shooter right now I use filters quite a bit, and with a 21mm (either my current ZM C Biogon or the new SEM) I can use 46mm filters as opposed to the 18mm that takes 77mm filters on an external adapter. If I shot only with an M9 it would be a toss up between the 18mm and SEM 21mm.
efreed2754 Posted January 7, 2013 Share #10 Â Posted January 7, 2013 Hi Dave or Mr Zany. Got my 18 about two years ago and wouldn't travel without it. I have a MATE and a 24 so no interest in 21. Â The lens should be kept horizontal and takes a bit of learning to place items of interest in the foreground. Got some wonderful shots of the duomo in Milan last May. This lens does what others can't. Â The finder is a must. Also have a 24 Elmarit so the finder works for both. Â That's it. Learn to use it and you will get many photographic dividends/pics. algrove Posted January 7, 2013 Share #11 Â Posted January 7, 2013 Indeed. There is no reason to take the hood off, ever. Â Agree. Knowing why the red o-ring is there and then seeing that photo of the lens sans hood just made me cringe.
zanydave Posted January 7, 2013 Author Share #12 Â Posted January 7, 2013 Yes very tempted...Need to off load my Olympus OM-D outfit first unless anybody would like to swap their 18 or
iedei Posted January 7, 2013 Share #13 Â Posted January 7, 2013 Agree. Knowing why the red o-ring is there and then seeing that photo of the lens sans hood just made me cringe. Â i just took the photo of demonstration purposes. it was funny because when i asked the guy at the store why it has a 'red ring'...he said: "because it's limited edition"

RoySmith Posted January 31, 2013 Share #15 Â Posted January 31, 2013 This lens was just delivered yesterday. I am still running M9 firmware 1.162 and am happy with it. I've read about problems some users have had with firmware 1.176 and 1.196. Â Is there any better lens correction in the newer firmware that 18mm SEM images would benefit from ? HeinzX Posted January 31, 2013 Share #16 Â Posted January 31, 2013 I like the 18 mm very much. It is one of my favourite lenses. My next one in focal length is the 28 mm. And this two fulfill my requirements in wide angle perfectly. Â Regarding firmware update I feel no change with the new firmware.
