carlprad Posted January 2, 2013 Share #1  Posted January 2, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello  I know there are several people/companies that will re-paint LEICA cameras.  I was hoping to get everyones opinion on who is the re-painter they would send their LEICA to if they had the money. (I especially would like to hear from people that have actually had their leicas re-painted.)  When making your opinion, please take into consideration not just the quality of work, but also the amount of time it takes and the cost.  Here are some of the re-painters I am aware of:  1) CRR Luton 2) Kantoamerica 3) Shintaro 4) Malcolm Taylor 5) Terumitsu inc.  Feel free to add the name and rating of any other re-paint service provider I have failed to mention.  (Finally, please mention if the re-painter also re-paints LEICA lenses.) Advertisement Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Hi carlprad, Take a look here Best LEICA "Painter". I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
topoxforddoc Posted January 2, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted January 2, 2013 I would send mine to CRR. Peter Grisalfi is very honest about his turnaround times. He will sometimes ask you to wait before sending the camera. Once he has it though, the work gets done quickly and it's super quality. Â Malcolm Taylor is a lovely guy and a real whizz with Leicas, but some of his bigger jobs can take some time. Shintaro's work is, I believe, excellent; but some people on the forum have had significant delays.
jaapv Posted January 3, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted January 3, 2013 Significant as in three years without even email response from Shintaro. Good work but only for those with unflappable nerves.
stunsworth Posted January 3, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted January 3, 2013 Significant as in three years without even email response from Shintaro. Good work but only for those with unflappable nerves. Â I've seen the results, Robert Stevens of this forum had a couple of cameras painted by him. The finish was superb, but after following your problems I wouldn't dream of using him. carlprad Posted January 3, 2013 Author Share #5  Posted January 3, 2013 Steve and Jaap  Can you suggest an alternative "re-painter" that I might be able to enlist?  Thanks  Carlos
earleygallery Posted January 3, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted January 3, 2013 I think you have listed them all. Give CRR a call if you're based in the EU (easier to deal with posting/customs).
CalArts 99 Posted January 3, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted January 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just curious, I've heard of Kanto Camera Shop in Japan for painting but what is Kantoamerica? Is it the same? (number 2 on the OP's list; a Google search of kantoamerica only brings up this post and identical posts that the OP has posted on camera forums everywhere.) Thanks.
