JCharlton Posted January 1, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted January 1, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Do we have an idea of the average depreciation of new lenses such as the: Â Leica M-35mm/f1.4 ASPH Summilux-M @ Retail $4,995.00 Â A bit hard to speculate, but I'm curious how much this particular lens holds its value, say in mint condition, 1-2 years from now. Who buys a Leica lens with the intention of selling it on (ok apart from rare collector items).

Justin Since I am a hobbyist, I do not think about depreciation when I buy a new lens or body. From experience, most Leica lens hold their value if they are in mint condition. Again, it is a hobby and not a business for me. I do not think about what it might be worth in a few years. I buy it because I want to enjoy what it might capture if I do the right things. jaapv Posted January 2, 2013 Share #4  Posted January 2, 2013 Wait until it is discontinued in a decade or three and it will be worth a lot more than you bought it for. Provided you leave it in its box and never use it. You might even beat inflation.
kokoshawnuff Posted January 2, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted January 2, 2013 As of now it seems as though Solms production has caught up to the market, so if you bought the lens, used it once, and tried to sell it in 2 weeks you'd probably be down $500 or so. 16 months ago you could have easily sold a used 35 lux asph for well over retail, it might be the case again when the M240 begins shipping, or in three years when the next model starts shipping. Â Either way, if you keep the lens in good condition you likely won't be disappointed in the price you get for it.
