I just found a lens I have been looking for a long time.

Canon 1.8/50 LTM. Most are beaten up, but this one is mint- :) It will go well with my 35/2.8 :)

It is supposed to be on the same level as the Summicron 50, with slightly lower contrast. I look forward to testing it out - the shots will go into the "Old lenses on the Monochrom" thread.

I see a few Russian 40mm yellow on ebay right now, and occasionally Canon filters show up. Are you against a 40-40.5 step up ring? At least you can get B+W in 40.5

I got a 40-43 stepup. I have 43 filters lying around already.

Jaap,

This is a wonderful lens, I use it on my M8 (can't afford any of the M9 series or Monochrom). I am looking for the 40 mm filters, also does anyone know of a person who can adapt UV/IR glass to a 40 mm ring if I find one? In black and white it renders beautifully, colors are sometimes off on M8. I purchased this lens along with a 105/2.5 Nikkor LTM lens and a Nikon Varifocal finder (with markings for 73mm and 90 mm lenses) all for $350.00. What a bargain! Will have to post photos of these lenses on my M8 and my M2.

I am also looking for a lens hood for the Canon 50 mm.

Jaap, enjoy this lens.

Sincerely,

Russell

Jaap,

I saw your picture of this lens on your Monochrom after I sent my original post.

How did you get DOF scale to sit at the 12:00 position? I have found that all Japanese LTM lenses mount at the 2:00 position, at least in my experience. Did you glue it on the adapter this way and if yes, do you get true infinity setting? Let me know.

It simply sits there, I do not know why, all my other old ltm lenses, including Leica ones, mount in the 2 o'clock position. Maybe because I use an original Leica adapter ( I would try that out when I return home) or because this is a late example.

Still, a lovely lens :)

Jaap,

There are a few original Canon lens hoods for this lens on Ebay. These are divisible, like the 12504 hoods for the 35 summilux (pre-asph). One part screws into the filter thread on the lens, the hood itself fits over the part that screws into the lens.

The reason that I am mentioning this to you is that you can take a 39 mm filter and place it between these 2 parts. You need to have the filter threads facing the subject. You should put 3 small pieces of gaffer tape where the 2 parts of this hood meet. I suggest at the 2,6, and 10 o'clock positions. By placing the filter inside this hood, you cause the hood to protrude 1 or 2 mm from the "mount". The tape will prevent the hood part from falling off (losing your hood and filter). I can mount a 39 mm UV/IR filter on this lens, thereby "normalizing" the colors on my M8.

There is still one of these hoods left on Ebay, it is selling for the princely sum of $149.00, but I think this may be a good solution for using your red and yellow filters on your Monochrom with this lens.

Hope this helps you.

I need to make a correction to this post. 39 mm filters do not fit well into this hood because of the "thickness" caused by the filter threads and tape does not hold the 2 sections of this hood together. I will try to locate a series 5.5 filter and fit it between the 2 parts of this lens hood. If I am successful with this venture, does anyone know of a filter manufacturer that makes the UV/IR filters in series 5.5?

No need. If used upside down a 39 B&W Pro fits well enough, it just rattles a bit because it lacks 1 mm diameter.

I found out the hard way that the thread on the lens is .75, not .50E:o

So no 40-43 step-up rings.

Btw, it has been joined by a mint 50/1.8 A lovely pair :)

Another fun lens, destined for the M240, as it is not RF coupled: A Corfield Periflex Lumax 1:1.9/45. Maybe 1950, Made in the UK.

It turns out to focus down to approx 3" natively, so it will be a fun Macro lens. I tried it out on the Visoflex and MM. Amazing, here @ f 2.8:
