stuny Posted July 21, 2006 Share #1 Posted July 21, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) About 25 KM outside of Jodhpur, one of the different cultures we visited was a Moslem village of potters and their extended families. Remarkably, this was a Moslem group that had no qualms about photographing their women and children. However, as you can see in this progression, the little girls were rather timid and initially a bit frightened of these Western strangers. However, once Barbara began handing out Polaroid photos nobody was shy, and even the little girls took to us. I’ve included one shot of the boys, who were the first we saw in the village, and most certainly were not shy of foreign visitors. More photos in this region on the 3rd page of our India photos. jmr Posted July 21, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 21, 2006 Stuart, all good shots, as usual for you. I must say that I love the last one, of the boys; the tight framing works very well, and the diagonal composition of the faces is wonderful.
earleygallery Posted July 21, 2006 Share #3 Posted July 21, 2006 Excellent shots, and they really need to be in colour. The last shot is a little marred by the Garth Brookes T shirt however!

gverdon Posted July 21, 2006 Share #6 Posted July 21, 2006 I also love the last one. For me, the T-shirt adds a lot of pseudo-contrast/tension. Gérald

stuny Posted July 22, 2006 Author Share #8 Posted July 22, 2006 John - thank you. James & Gerald - It saddens me that there is hardly anyplace on Earth that I've gone to where I didn't think the local culture was poluted by my country's pop culture. One notable exception was Tanzania. Stefan M - Thank you Johann - Thank you. Stefan R - Remarkable camera the D2. Here at ISO 100, minimally compressed jpeg. arthury Posted July 23, 2006 Share #12 Posted July 23, 2006 Interesting documentation! The lighter hair of the youngsters reminded me of the Afghans. The colors of their clothings from that state in India always amaze me. Thanks for sharing!
stuny Posted July 23, 2006 Author Share #13 Posted July 23, 2006 Arthur - Thank you. I too thought of that beautiful light-eyed Afghani girl from National Geographic some 25 years ago. And yes, the colors of Indian dress are amazing, and the people seem to wear them virtually all the time, even doing field work.
