Too much complaining on this forum?

Just a thought - people have been complaining about the forum lay-outs, and the way people spend time here (the Digital Forum). One thing I like about the Rangefinder Forums is that they have a sub-forum for M8-related problems. Maybe if we did that we would move a lot of the technical M8 issues to a more dedicated place, and leave the Digital Forum for more objective threads about the various Leica digital offerings...

Thanks IF for bringing up the issue. Personally, I like things the way they are. What seem to be complaints at first glance often become issues that many people are having.

I never check on the Rangefinder Forum anymore as it seems to be very anti-M8.

My 2 cents.

.............. there is a good chance that it may not happen here;)

I guess the problem is the tone of the complaints. It looks like me that every person with an issue thinks that by yelling at Leica and explaining they might well resell their equipment and go back to Canon, they will get attention from Solms.

But Solms is busy producing & selling the M8 by numbers as well as fixing the problems. By numbers too...

Well said Pascal. I think most people do not realize that this forum is, even if sponsored by Leica, not a way to actually communicate (as in 2-way communication).

I have received a lot of help here in the past, but the final solution was always to contact Leica directly and take the matter to them.

The one thing that sets this forum apart from the others is I actually get information I can use here. The signal to noise ratio is very good which makes visiting and contributing worthwile. Where else will you get profiles and work-arounds for Aperture, C1 and Lightroom specific to the M8 and extensive accurate information on wide ranging M8 related topics like the recent Visoflex thread. Elsewhere on the internet there seems to be a lot of attitude, posturing and bloviating but very little in the way of useful first hand content that will help you get better and more consistant results from the M8 (or any other camera).

This has become the only forum I visit regularly for that reason. I hope the high level of discourse continues.

Well said Hank and completely agree and for me it is really the only forum i post in any more , once in awhile on Photo.net but every time I do i get attitude, I honestly don't need the BS in my life. I much rather come to a place were after 31 years i actually learn something. For a lot of Pro's that are on this board i am sure they would say the same thing, we get something out of this place as well as give back and you just don't find that anywhere else. For me it is a comfort factor that when i post something hopefully people learn something from it but more important enjoy it and if we can't learn and have fun than what is the point at the end of the day. Yes there are complaints and such and let's face it the M8 has some issues and it is frustrating at times but you can come in here make a post that your upset but after others post to it you start feeling a little better about the issue and start working on the solutions . That's golden in my book. I find we do a great job as a unit to help solve some of the issues at hand than just doing it yourself and just being upset. Complaints are good if you take the right approach with them and try and solve it than just whining about it and not try to fix it. For the most part we as a forum try to fix it somehow.

Do I get my candy bar now . LOL

Basically I was just thinking out loud. I agree, I don't really want to hold the RFforums up as an example - it is weird how some people there invest a ton of their free time openly hating the M8. Just really strange... John Ludd comes to mind, but they don't have the same vitriolic response for the R-D1....

Anyway, a thread recently bemoaned the fact that the Digital Forum (and the M8 in particular) are skewing the overall forum participation, so I thought that actual technical complaint threads (rather than the "How Do I?" or "Check out what I discovered" threads) could be moved to a seperate forum. Might help people find a solution more easily, and give those that are collating error situations an easier chance to track issues.

Just a thought. I'm new here, and the purpose of my thread is not to complain or ruffle feathers.

I've made a few posts on other forums (RFF included) and in almost every case have had to deal with ridiculously juvenile reponses. I'm not judging the quality of the vast majority of members of those forums, I'm just saying that a few bad apples are all it takes to completely ruin an otherwise good impression of a community. I have better things to do with my time and have either taken those forums off my bookmarks list or gone into lurk mode completely on those sites.

I like the one-size-fits all forum grouping here. That said, I'd like to see more moderation in relation to combining threads, and more member participation in directing redundant questions to existing threads. I agree that everyone should be able to ask anything, but pragmatically speaking, if I'm searching for any topic, it's easier to search through one or two threads with multiple pages than it is for me to search through 14 threads most of which duplicate information.

To date this is one of the best and most helpful communities I've found on the web, and as someone commented earlier, one of the only photography forums from which I get useful information. I think chaos is a natural aspect of any kind of community which builds knowledge; managing that chaos is the key to the long term survivability of such communities.

I have learned a lot from this forum including some of the negative threads. It might get old if it was overwhelmingly negative but most problems are followed up by many ideas and solutions. I wouldn't change a thing.

As an M8 user I have to say that I feel sorry for anyone using another digital camera. This section of the forum gets swamped by M8 questions and I'm sure it's a disincentive to post for such people. I really think it's time for an M8 sub-forum to allow users of other cameras a look in.

My 2 rubles; Don't mess with success. I'd not change a thing here.

Other, non-M8, digital photographers have all the room they need here. If Thread titles were as descriptive, of content, as possible, browsing the forum could go quickly.

I'm old to photography, but new to Leicas. This LUF is the cat's arse AFIC!

Thanks to all who're responsible for that.

At least in my case I can tell you I've spent a lot of years in bussines and other jobs without too many possibilities and time of learning photographie as a pro had. Many magazines, a lot of books, trying to understand the techincal mysteries and artistic alternatives to reach to a good image. Allways with a Leica on my shoulder.

For me and others like me, the chance to follow this forum, now I'm retired, it`s a great opportunity to learn from you, and value so much all your advices and the images you joint illustrating your words. It`s a wise cocktail.

I never have done a work of art. Along my live I made thousands of photographies, most of them.... , few with a good level, but still now I'm looking for the Image of my Live!

There is a lot of people in this forum, and everybody knows them, that continously help the others. Thank you all of them.

If somebody complains, it's Ok, but never this forum must belong to a club of experts and their rules. All of us, teachers and learners have the right to post with our, may be candid, exitement.

Thanks, again,

Francisco.

... so the implcation here is that people who use other cameras don't know how to post .... then if you buy a M8 part of the software download helps you to become a ace downloader of quirky headings

.

.

.

.

.... its a question of volume that swamps the other posters. Remember that the sales of the panaleicas are there to keep the high end such as the m8 alive.

I must say posts such as B&H has black M8 in stock are exciting

I feel sorry for those that bought another leica other than a m8, they are probably new to Leica and would like some assistance ...............but this is no longer the place for them
