I've been watching and reading these forums for a while and taking great inspiration. This thread in particular is relevant to me as the lens usually attached to my MM is a Zeiss 35/2. Recently also picked up the 28/2.8 for a trip to the Lake District. Excuse the very dusty sensor, needs a clean badly and obviously forgot to remove the spots on some of these! Welcome, dear visitor! duoenboge Posted September 11, 2014 Share #48 Posted September 11, 2014 I use the C Sonnar 1.5/50 on my M. An 80 year old lens design! in combination with the most modern Leica. Its a dream! The results are beautifully. The Sonnar is not so sharp as a modern Leica lens but its sharp enough and the bokeh is amazing. I can't see a conflict in to use Zeiss lenses on Leica. The first world famous Leica lens was a copy of the Zeiss Tessar. So they have the same roots and I'm very happy that both grate brands survives all the difficult times. dierk Posted September 19, 2014 Share #52 Posted September 19, 2014 Coming from the owner of 21 Summilux and SEM I think the 4.5/21 ZM Biogon-C is a stellar lens. I sold it because of the red edge on the M9 before I knew about the Monochrom. Shame I never got to try it on this camera. When I picked up my MM in Hamburg, I had the C-Biogon 21mm with me and an yellow-orange filter. The first images in my MM album are all made with this lens within my first hour with my new baby. I've seen some of your photos with the 4.5/21 ZM C-Biogon on the Monochrom which led me to consider replacing the one I'd sold with another. However,I decided against it as I still had the 21 Summilux and SEM. I had always been very impressed with the resolution and sharpness and lack of distortion of the Zeiss lens (especially compared to the Summilux (unfair comparison), but I did some more formal comparisons of the SEM and C-Biogon before I sold it and the SEM did come up a bit better (not surprising) but not by much, it's a little faster, no/minimal red edge problems on the M9/M240, and I really couldn't justify three 21mm lenses! Nevertheess, if I was starting out now buying a 21 just for the Monochrom it would without doubt be the C-Biogon (the Monochrom's high ISO performance would also offset the small advantage in speed of the SEM. I'm considering a 15mm lens as I don't have anything wider than a 21. Voigtlander have just released a 15 and I do want one I can also use on the M240. How is a Contax G-mount modified for M-mount? At the first glance the price is beyond any idea - but you get 3 in one and you get perfect 16mm on M9, MM and any other (I love it on my Sony A7R!) and you can put filters on it! If you trade in your 21mm lenses and don't need a 16mm, the price will not be so much more frightening :-) Here is my WATE album.
