erl Posted November 16, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted November 16, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) After watching, for some considerable time, two who should remain nameless, purchasing old minty 111f's in Copenhagen a couple of weeks ago, I have caught the disease. I want a 111f, I think. (thanks Nick & Robert!) Â As a teenager in the 50's I saw what was surely a Leica 111f in a camera store and wanted it immediately, till I learned the price. Box Brownies were still the go then. Anyway I have spent 48hrs researching and have found a seemingly good example at 'The Vintage & Classic Camera Co' in the UK. I'm in Australia. Â Can forum members comment on dealing with the company named. are they reliable, reputable etc. My only option is to commit 'sight unseen' and rely on their web description and pics. If as stated, I am satisfied with the offered camera and lens. Any other forum members dealt with them? Â All opinions welcome. Thanks.
Advertisement Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Hi erl, Take a look here I seem to be infected with the 'OLd Leica Disease'!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pgk Posted November 16, 2012 Share #2  Posted November 16, 2012 Hi Erl  I know that I have bought from this dealer in the past (a couple of years ago) and the item must have been as described and ok because I can't remember what it was! I pretty sure that everything went through fine though.
luigi bertolotti Posted November 16, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted November 16, 2012 Don't know that dealer : I know well this one, who has several IIIf : very trustable in his descriptions and declared level of conditions https://www.leicashop.com/vintage/leica-leica-schraubkameras-c-1000_1001.html
Messsucherkamera Posted November 16, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted November 16, 2012 It seems that this affliction is spreading. I too have recently been smitten by the longing for a IIIf. Â Hopefully the spread of this disorder is limited. Otherwise the price of IIIf cameras may commence an upward march, as even used Leica prices are wont to do when too many folk take up the pursuit of a particular model. Â Damn you, supply and demand!! Return to the pit of hell from whence you came, ye vile drudge of Beelzebub!!

Messsucherkamera Posted November 16, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted November 16, 2012 Didn't think so. Â But there is a cure - buy a IIIf!! That treatment isn't covered by health I insurance, though.

iphoenix Posted November 16, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted November 16, 2012 Greetings Erl, Do you belong to the Australian Photographic Collectors Society (Web: www.apcsociety.com.au )? They meet in Glen Iris and have auctions around 3 times a year. The October auction's just been held, but there were a number of r/f leicas sold. The next auction won't be for a few months, but if you are not in a hurry to buy, you may find what you want there. The prices are normally quite reasonable. Rgds, David
earleygallery Posted November 17, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted November 17, 2012 Hi John, find one at a London dealer and I'd be happy to pop along and check it out first. I'll check what my local dealer has in stock - depends what condition/price you want of course!
jaapv Posted November 17, 2012 Share #11 Â Posted November 17, 2012 Red Dot has a large number of nice iii cameras at very affordable prices. I've bought from them several times. Always good items at good price.
erl Posted November 17, 2012 Author Share #12 Â Posted November 17, 2012 What kind ? BD or RD ? with or without ST ?... Currently favouring RD with ST + 50/2.0 Summitar. Case & lens cap included. Don't particularly need the ST but the combo I am favouring has it anyway. Decision in the next 24hrs. IMPETUOUS? Yes! andym911 Posted November 17, 2012 Share #13 Â Posted November 17, 2012 I bought my IIIf some fove years ago and still love it....since then I also got a IIf which actually I like even more...I dont miss the slow speeds and it is a bit lighter....you cannot get a more simple camera....good luck in your search.. Â By the way I have always bought at Meister camera in Hamburg and have never been disappointed with the descriptions and what I actually received. farnz Posted November 17, 2012 Share #15 Â Posted November 17, 2012 Heh, heh, I caught Noctilux Fever from you in Copenhagen and I am now poorer but happier so there is a delicious irony here, Erl. (Refusing to even touch your Noctilux let alone take sample shots with it didn't stop me catching the Fever after seeing the shots you and others have produced with it.) Â I have no personal experience of dealing with The Vintage and Classic Camera Company which is based in Homdean near Gosport in Hampshire so it's probably a couple of hours journey from London. I found this article about the company in Amateur Photographer, which is a well respected magazine, so V&CCC looks to be in the upper echelons of online camera vendors but still come with the same caveats about buying online of course. Â My advice would be to buy from a Leica dealer whom you know, such as Red Dot Cameras, who back up their products with excellent and knowledgeable advice service and are connected to the Leica Mothership in the event that a rare part is needed. Â Please let us know how you get on. Â Pete.
