Clickie McPete Posted November 8, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted November 8, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey folks, I just picked up this lens on Ebay for my SL: Â Leica 28 F2.8 Elmarit (3 Cam) (German) Leica R SN:2804798 Â I'm trying to determine what the filter size is as it came with no protection whatsoever, no caps, no nothing. Any clues?

Clickie McPete Posted November 9, 2012 Author Share #3 Â Posted November 9, 2012 Thank you. Â I'm still a bit mystified though..."a Series 7 filter held in by the hood." What the heck kind of Mickey Mouse arrangement is this? Isn't there a standard thread size here that I can just screw a filter onto? And if it's too close to the front element how about a step ring to push it out a bit? What is the size of this thing?
lct Posted November 9, 2012 Share #4  Posted November 9, 2012 Excellent hood # 12509. Solid as a tank. Order numbers of series VII filters are 13006 (yellow), 13007 (yellow-green), 13008 (orange), 13009 (UVa) and 13370 (polar). Welcome, dear visitor! a.noctilux Posted November 9, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted November 9, 2012 This Elmarit-R 28mm has 48 mm "filter size", E48. Â To make things simple for every day use, I screwed in front an adaptor 48 to 49mm. So I could use more common E49 filters and cap and so on (hood from Pentax, Zuiko, ...). Â The original hood can no more be mounted with the adaptor 48-49. This hood is a very clever design with the wheel to rotate POL serie 7. Clickie McPete Posted November 11, 2012 Author Share #7 Â Posted November 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for the advice, I tracked down a hood and filter, also the filter ring. I'll see how that works and if I'm not crazy about the arrangement maybe I'll look into the step ring.
RFNewcomer Posted November 11, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted November 11, 2012 I recently acquired a new 48 mm B+W UV filter for this lens and it fits fine, no problems with the hood or cap. I did have to wait an extended time for the filter, though, as it's a non-standard size. Nice lens too, by the way.
Clickie McPete Posted November 22, 2012 Author Share #9 Â Posted November 22, 2012 OK, the filter finally arrived. It pops into the hood and is held in there nicely. So, that's fine and self explanatory and everything is solid as a rock...but what is this other part, the Series VII 14161 ring for? It's threaded on one end but will not thread into the 28mm lens. lct Posted November 22, 2012 Share #10  Posted November 22, 2012 (…) what is this other part, the Series VII 14161 ring for? It's threaded on one end but will not thread into the 28mm lens. (…) The 14161 adapter ring is made to use series VII filters on E54 filter mounts. It doesn't work on the Elmarit-R 28/2.8 # 11204 which has an E48 filter mount if memory serves. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/14161
les24preludes Posted February 16, 2013 Share #11 Â Posted February 16, 2013 All you need to do is fit a 49mm filter in the hood. It pushes in. It should push into the hood back(thread side) first. Push it down using equal pressure on all sides. Â That's what I've done for my 28 and 35mm lenses. I believe it's a common fix.

tobey bilek Posted April 22, 2013 Share #13 Â Posted April 22, 2013 Buy only the Leitz ser 7 pola. Other brands have very slightly different outside diameters, fractions of a mm, and there is not enough friction from the small wheel to rotate the filter. Â Otherwise any brand ser 7 colored filter is fine. Â If you pursue R glass, ser 8 for 35 PA Curtagon is 60 mm and there is the same issue rotating it, ser 6 can be easily had by reversing a 39 mm, ser 7 is 54mm, ser 8 1/2 for 21 4.0 is 72 mm. sfage Posted May 21, 2013 Share #14 Â Posted May 21, 2013 And I presume one can remount the the hood with the series 7 polarizer on the elmarit 28mm?
