Incomplete R9

I would have thought that your chances of getting an R9 film back as a spare part from Leica are very good - but the price might be disconcertingly steep. So I really would suggest that you get a quote before you decide whether your cheap R9 is cheap enough, given the price and plentiful availability of complete examples.

That is the problem with R8 and R9 cameras. they are so overengineered that repairs or overhauls are often not advisable economically.

I know that Will van Manen has my old R9 for spare parts. You might contact him.

According to the current owner Leica are quoting £600, although that includes an overhaul as well. If that is the case it would be cheaper to buy a secondhand R9

Ye gods! Won't they sell the back simply as a spare, without the overhaul? It's surely easy enough to swap on a DIY basis - after all that is what the DMR was about!

HI Torquinian,

What do you exactly mean with "buy the back" ?? the digital back or the Analog ( normal ) one ??

Just asking.. since interested in your matter..

And another question.. how cheap is for you a cheap R9 ??

Just asking to be able to also to assist, since i have R9 and R8 and R7 ( not for sale though )

Bye

Martin

Thank you all for your advice and offers. I have now been outbid on e-bay and am not persuing it any further. If Leica quoted £600 to fix it [ after inspecting it] there are no doubt other problems that I haven't been told about.

You are always welcome, and there are so many Leica R9 with or without lenses

out there.. the issue is, buying one which is sold as "incomplete", where you will not even be able to make some few test shots, to find other hidden failures, is a big risk,

I think, you have had luck for not having the luck to buy the so called Incomplete R9..

Cheers and best wishes

Hmmm

"Opportunity to buy a very cheap R9" & "been outbid on eBay" are not compatible I'm afraid. Serious bidders wait until the last few seconds of an auction to place their bids, so you can't judge the price of an item by whatever it's running at before then (ignoring buy it now prices or reserves).
